I want to see man, or another species with the aid of man colonize another planet before I die.  I mean lets face it, we have all came to the conclusion we are designed to propagate the species.  If we can get a foothold on another planet, or get another species on another planet that we can later use to our advantage we have done something unparalleled.

It's true.  We have a long way to go though.

This really is an exciting time in the grand scheme of things though. 2012 coming, these crazy diseases popping up w/ new ones every year, the evolution of EVERYTHING from cars to clothing to the human psyche. People are starting to change and you can literally SEE it... it's great. Everything is changing if you take a step back and look!

I'm very excited and happy to be alive and in this body this second of this day of this week in this year, in this state, in this country (kinda...) in this world in this galaxy in this universe in this multiverse... for real, this is a crazy time to be alive.

The time is now! Now is the time!

But I consider our civilization pretty primitive still. Sure, we have made exponential progress in the past 50 years, and quite amazing leaps in knowledge and technology... but we think we are king shit of fuck mountain, cause we made a couple computer chips and think we have a plant or two figured out.

Yet our technology is used for destructive means. We have not figured out how to become one with the planet Earth, which sustains our very existence. And we have not figured out how to become one with each other, or ourselves.. because we are still blowing each others faces off and raping the planet of its resources and polluting the hell out of it with no conscience or thought of consequences whatsoever. When a civilization is capable of cloning, and creating nuclear weapons.. without any sort of spiritual understanding of the reactions or consequences of such technology and the responsibility that comes with it.. there is a line that must be drawn. Or else that civilization will bring about its ultimate destruction and will be the cause of its own downfall.

So yeah, we've definitely come a long way, really fast.. in the past 100 years.. but I'd say we have a long way to evolve yet.

But I believe we are at a turning point in the evolution of our species. I believe the internet and the "information age" is the pre-cursor to the opening of the collective unconsciousness and the "age of enlightenment". We have many lessons to learn yet.. we are at the crux of this new age... it has only just begun.

Dont you think that kinda applies to every time in history? All this change thats happening now has always been happening. Of course that doesn't make it any less interesting.

yeah of course. But I also kind of think this time period we are living in now is pretty unique.. I'd venture to say we're gonna see some pretty wicked shit go down in the next 10 or so years. CRITICAL MASS you might say....

INDEED.

With great technology comes great responsibility... which... we... don't.... have.

You must understand the bigger picture, if you are going to have such an effect on your environment...

Yes, I do think it applies to every time in history, but with the exponential growth, now is even more interesting then say... 50 years ago, which was more interesting then 50 years before that. And 50 years from now will be even more interesting then now...

It takes an amount of time between when things happen and when we perceive them, so really we're living in the past! :p

But yeah today I was listening to my iPod and using my cellphone at the same time, an everyday routine, but it really clicked how much technology and handy things we have around us... I felt like a cyborg.

Like whenever I'm out and about and my phone/iPod battery starts dying, I feel I must return to my headquarters and replenish my energy supply. A damn cyborg...

This is going to sound bizarre...but for the past several months I have seriously felt like our society and planet is a futuristic civilization.  I'm sitting here on my laptop, listening to animal collective, in a society that has accomplished amazing feats of science and technology, and I just feel like this is an incredible time to be living in.  When you analyze the past several decades within a complete anthropological context, it's really amazing what we are experiencing right now.

Maybe this is one of those thoughts that won't translate well over typing, I'm not sure.

Just imagine what the world will be like in a hundred years.

Also just because we can use fancy tools, doesn't make us any less animalistic.  Just watch the way people behave.  The human beast trips me out.

Things can seem amazing, and I'm not knocking what we've done. We've extended our lives, and in many ways vastly improved them. And Animal Collective is pretty neat

But as a friend far more intelligent then I put it, really, we've gotten better at moving stuff around. Yes we have fancy tech. And some societies are much better in some ways then they we're.... But we've also endangered most of the life on earth. And our lifestyle, this "futuristic" thing you're chilling in, could ultimately mean our destruction. Look at the amount of resources left in the world.
Read books like Shrinking Resources, Rising Powers.
The Ingenuity Gap, etc...
Mycelium Running(of course)

Many would say we are royally fucked already. And while I'm between dark and bright green environmentalism, dark demands structural change, bright tries to invent it's way out of problems, basically....
To not pay attention to this crisis any longer is not only stupid, it's selfish.

So enjoy the cool stuff. I do....Astronomy, computers etc...but don't lose sight of the fact we have a long way to go. We are not in any golden age, if anything it's about to get really dark, really fast. If we don't pay attention.

Our ecosystem is collapsing, and no amount of VELCRO will fix it. We need better materials, and ideas.
Microbiology is a huge hope.
Let's hope we can make it though the next 10 years relatively ok.

A great indicator of stupidity is the belief that things will always stay the same.

Fuck, I can't write anymore of this so high on opies...
Maybe a more passionate response another time

I think you might be inferring an intent to my original post that wasn't really there.  I just think it's mindblowing where our society is in the context of natural history, and viewing ourselves as the animals that we are.  I'm not saying it's a good thing or a bad thing, although it is really cool.
