Yep, chanterelle, but they look a bit past their prime.

well it's been raining for the better part of a week now, so all the mushrooms I've found today have been way soggy.

And yes they're supposed to be good eatin

I found my first chant a couple of days ago.  It was pretty good, but I didn't clean very well.  Grit is not good to eat.

Those look a bit waterlogged. Might still be good eating though. Chantherelles are the tastiest mushrooms IMO.

For the record, Chanterelles are mycorrhizal and grow under trees. Look for those golden ones under oaks. Not sure what other chanterelle species like, but I've found those under oaks specifically. Usually LARGE oak trees.

You can clean them with a baby brush or a soft nail brush to get the grit out from between the ridges, or soak them in a mild soap solution like Fit. It's difficult, but necessary.

yes these were growing under a little grove of oaks back in the woods. It's quite a pleasant place to think or smoke so I was pleased to find them there.
