Marching Band

I have terrible knees caused by odd muscle placement and, because of this, I am unable to march for extended periods of time.

I am forced to do the Pit, which is the percussion instruments on the side lines. It sucks nuts, because I could be marching clarinet, which is something I'm good at. :hissyfit:

Though I might be lucky and be promoted to Drum Major, all depends on how much of a jerk the conductor is being.  :deepman:

i was in marching band once, i played clarinet.
i was ok in parades, but sucked on the half-time shows.
the part i hated most was, no matter how much horse shit was in the road, you HAD to walk through it so teh whole group looked good. blech.

You sure you are actually physically disabled?  Maybe just lazy?...  So you don't street march at all and you just do the halftime show motionless in pit?  Marching band hurts like fuck the first year then it's easy.  For me it was my back..  All that standing killed me the first year.  It's good for you though, that's why it hurts.:tongue:  It soon goes away and you're better for it.  I guess I don't blame you for trying to get out of it, it can be hard work marching several miles in a heavy uniform carrying an instrument in the heat, all while playing and staying instep together.  Most people just like going on the trips though, not the work.  I never learned the music all that well myself but at least I marched. :tongue:

What did you have to play in pit? Xylophone?

I was in marching band!  I played trumpet.  It was when I lived in central Texas, and marching out on a concrete practice field with the band director yelling out criticisms from a 15' podium while the 110 degree sun beat down upon us for hours and hours helped me understand what being a soldier might be like.... 

Marching band is hardcore...those practices kicked my butt daily.

I miss marching and was thinking on joining up the local
university marching band, I always had a girl while in the band

playing in a marching band is incredible. I played in my University marching band all 4 years of school. That's how I met my wife.

There is no sound like being a part of a great horn line.
