Oh btw, using an outdoor pond from a place like home depot can be a lot easier to take care of than an aquarium.

If you need to use an aquarium, check craigslist for a good deal. Get the biggest one you can find and check out youtube for ideas for landings.

I actually dislike turtles come to think of it. Because the right habitat takes a lot of thought, time, effort, and some money as well.

Someone had a red-eared slider, neglected it, and then dumped it on my friend who thought she was ready to take care of it. Then she moved in with me and neglected it. I was familiar with turtles, having taken care of a few before and making a decent habitat for some mud turtles (better pets IMO). So I felt sorry for the thing and bought it a new aquarium, built a landing, fed it all the time, and cleaned out it's nasty nasty gross tank and filter when needed. I was so mad about it I wanted to just let him loose at a Buddhist temple where he would have more space but my girlfriend agreed to at least clean up and feed him. The worst part was when I had to clean it. I have OCD and freak out about contamination. That shit-water, which I believed was contaminated with salmonella, would splash all over my face when I'd try to move the tank before cleaning. :mad2:

Eventually I ran into a primary school teacher that had a collection of pets and a young red-eared slider that didn't have a proper habitat.

I asked her if she wanted another turtle and a decent habitat, for free.

Happy ending at least. He was a very active and attractive looking turtle so I'm sure all those kids enjoy watching him every day at school.

Don't get a turtle unless you are willing to clean out the aquarium regularly.
