North Jersey shroomerites... pet stores?

Weird post, perhaps, but there is a life at stake, damnit!

My frog is getting really pissed off at me because he hasn't had a good meal in a while. I need some place that I can buy a feeder mouse. I went to Petsmart in Union yesterday and the fuckers don't sell feeders, only "fancy" mice.

Some guy suggested a place off 22 in Scotch Plains called Pet Shanty, I'm probably gonna be going there.

I tried googling "North Jersey pet stores" and can't find shit really. So do you guys know of any other decent pet stores in the North Jersey area?

The lab I work in was supposed to give me the mice they used when they were done. But they usually shoot them up with ketamine to put them down... I don't want to feed my frog a mouse with ketamine in it's system, might kill him.

And yeah, the frog eats mice:

Well, I'll usually prekill it. Theres a chance that if the frog gets bitten that it will get infected and die. Not a chance I want to take, I've had this guy 5 years.

But in nature they would just grab it with their mouth. They have these two big sharp teeth on the bottom jaw that form a v between them and then on the top jaw they have a big fang shaped tooth that fits into the groove of the lower teeth. They can cause some serious damage with that, like give you stitches damage.

I'm not sure if all of them do this, but once my frog has something in it's jaws it smashes it's food against rocks and glass and will sometimes even do back flips and land on its mouth with the food in it. He'll also drag stuff into the water to drown it... And do more back flips.

When I woke up today my frog was sitting there staring at me while I was sleeping. Either he's trying to tell me he's still hungry and wants a mouse or is plotting his revenge.

Pet Shanty is the only place i know of around here that has feeder mice. Oh yea and Animal Kingdom in South Orange.

I've had Pierre for about 5 years.


As far as how long you have to wait with that tadpole, it's hard to say. It depends on the species. With bullfrog tadpoles they have their back legs for about 2 months or so before the front ones pop out. I'm not sure what kind of frog that one is, it's not a bull frog though. Perhaps a pig frog or a green frog. My guess is some sort of aquatic frog (Rana genus).

Once you start to see the front legs developing (you'll see nubs forming), you will need to get that guy to a half-land, half-water set up. The lungs develop at the same time the front legs do so if it doesn't have somewhere to crawl out of the water and breath, it'll drown.
