secure connect

doesnt make me sign in til after ive already checked my messages, and sometimes made a few posts

am i secure for the time b4 it asks me to sign in to the https?
cause its usually after i do anything i might want to keep secret, like checking messages.

If you have https in your address bar and a little lock symbol (most browsers) your communication is secure.  If not, then it is completely in the clear.

when i first sign in its http: and it stays that way til i check messages and make a few posts, THEN the box for secure connect pops up and asks me to sign in. after i sign in its https: obviously.

this doesnt make any sense at all to me especially if its supposed to be there for our privacy.

shouldnt u sign into it right after signing into the forums? this is how it was about 3 months ago for me, but lately its been doing this and i figured it was a temp glitch, but its still going on!

kinda worries me anyone who could log into my account or network can see my private messages and stuff.

i dont use tor, or foxyproxy, or peerguardian or anything like that.
tried setting up foxyproxy once but it just made my head spin.

havent really worried about my safety much as i dont do anything worthy of jailtime these days, and ive only been hacked a small number of times.

i just want anyone who contacts me to be safe if say someone were to get through the first login page, or is somehow able to see my pms.

When you have SSL enabled it should make all the links on the BB point to secure URLs. Certain pages aren't password protected, so you won't get the password prompt on the login page for example. And if you have the non-secure URL bookmarked (http://), you should change it to the secure URL using https://. But the next time you're worried that a page isn't secure, take a look at the URL and see if it starts with https://... if not, please let me know what page, and also what link you followed.

Just curious, but is the login page landing and submission over HTTPS as well?  It should be for everyone, really, but yeah...  :laugh:

We don't forcefully redirect users if they access the landing or submission pages from a non-secure URL, just in case there are technical issues or whatever. But all the links on the site use secure URLs. The only exception is that popup login box I added recently, where the form itself isn't secure unless you're already browsing the site with SSL enabled. Not much I can do about that, load it in an iframe maybe, but if people are worried they should just use the actual login page.

when i follow the "messages" link by my name after logging in im not requested to type in my SSL info, same with viewing the messages.

i can also somtimes click various forums and threads for a while before it pops up. this happeneds at random and is not consistent.

does SSL just cover password related pages? is that what u mean by a submission page?
