Magic is just another stupid bullshit belief, of which we humans have many.

What is your definition of magic?  I'm generally considered plenty intelligent and I believe the form of magic most reasonable people in here are discussing is both useful and just as real as most anything else.  I am talking about the exploration of consciousness and subconsciousness, whether through meditation, yoga, or drugs - it is all magic.

Surely, being shroomerite, you have experienced said magic.  Taken mescaline? Then you definitely had a magical adventure.

Yeah, but don't you know, this is how it works. These fuckers like to target a general group (such as those who believe in a subjective term) and use blanket statements to act as if there is no subdivision.

This allows them to ignore the very real (and more subtly defined) magical aspects of reality that exist in the 'in between' space... the space between what is generally considered impossible (levitation, etc.) and the space of what is considered logically sound. (That which can be explained away with science.)

Instead of making individual approaches to different people with different views, it's easier to just say "Oh, grey zone is science realm, so we won't even address that"... but it's fucking bullshit, because there is so much in that realm that cannot be explained by science beyond mere theory which can be verified through human experience. (Such as programming the subconscious mind)

I dare you skeptics NOT TO target levitators, and other extremists who obviously don't represent the average magic practitioner. (How could they, when they're obviously full of shit?)

I dare you skeptics to start paying attention to what MOST spiritual individuals are trying to get at: That the nature of our reality does not involve levitation or telekinesis or magic fireballs from the palm of my hand, AND YET it is still mind-blowingly amazing. It is still unfathomable. It is still unexplained. Science explains nothing. Science is based on physics, which is a series of rules based on objectivity. And objectivity cannot be KNOWN with any certainty, due to our subjective perspectives.

Once more: The point is, it is easy to go after extremist views... but you are not changing or influencing almost any of the target audience, because the people who ARE willing to listen and consider your view are those with less extreme views, such as those who understand that magic is something that happens in the inner landscape and has nothing to do with telekinesis.

Or maybe I'm wrong.

But I'm sick of seeing the most legitimate arguments for belief in spirituality being intentionally overlooked because it is so much easier to verbally chase down the extremists who skew the various group definitions. (Magic users, muslims, christians, AMERICANS... take your fucking pick.)

Nobody can claim that science explains everything. In fact one of the stimulating and exciting things about science is that the more we know, the more we realize we don't know. What it does is provide a framework for seeking answers, as free as possible from the subjective bias inherent in the human experience. You can say "everything is subjective", and some quantum physicists will even agree with you, but it doesn't follow that science is worthless. The very precise predictions it makes can be used in an effective and practical manner to manipulate the world around us and affect this "subjective" reality in consistent and beneficial ways. To say "this is unknown, and thus unknowable" is to accept a bleak and dismal reality in which we are but passive observers with no power to gain insight or solve problems through the rigorous application of reason and logic. Perhaps you are perfectly content to inhabit this reality, and that's why I say it seems like something straight out of the dark ages. But the great thing about this "subjective" reality is you don't actually have to believe in science for it to work. We'll be here patiently waiting with our modern medicine, modern agriculture, and modern technology when you need us.

magick works.

+ if a person doesn't believe in it and you attack him/her with a spell or curse its even easier, because their beliefs are likely to come down and they help you out for whatever you need from them thru magick.

Of course not. That would be absurd. No one said science is worthless.

However, if everything is subjective, it DOES follow that science is FAR from absolute.

It DOES follow that everything science concludes SHOULD BE QUESTIONED because subjectivity itself is the BASIS for the RULE SETS upon which it is built.

And I don't mean questioned as in figure out a scientific explanation and dismiss it. That would be falling right back into the same trap. The point is that no answer or explanation generated through scientific analysis should ever be taken as an absolute truth.

It is THEORETICAL, plain and simple, just like all the other discussions based in science or not.

I'm thinking of these words in my mind, and typing on a keyboard made out of matter. My mind is affecting matter and there's nothing magical about it.

P.S. if you're going to accuse other people of being idiots you should learn the different between affect and effect.

I don't understand what you're proposing though. How do you question anything outside the framework of science? Are you saying you sit around and think about it, and decide that whatever your gut feels right is the truth, subjectively, for you? How is this a) useful for anything and b) better than consistent careful observations by multiple people over time?

Please don't think I'm intentionally mischaracterizing your argument, I just really don't get it, I hope you'll take the time to explain.

Magick has always worked for me, eat some mushies before the ritual next time, draw some sigils while on the plateau, then you -really- feel the energy. Without magick space and time would not exist.
