 Legalize pot, Canadian Senate committee says

OTTAWA - A Senate committee said in a report Wednesday that marijuana use should be legalized for adults.
The Special Committee on Illegal Drugs released its final report on Wednesday morning, in which it says the public drug policy should be of a guiding nature, rather than a restrictive one.

"The committee recommends that cannabis should be from here on in legal and of restricted use, so that Canadians can choose whether to consume or not in security," Senator Pierre Claude Nolin, chair of the committee.
The committee also says the government should wipe clean the records of anyone convicted of marijuana possession. There is no good reason pot smokers should be subject to criminal law, he said.
"In many ways prohibition is a cop-out," said Nolin. He said drug policy should focus on harm reduction, prevention and treatment.
The committee concludes that cannabis is less harmful than alcohol, and rejects the idea that smoking pot leads to harder drugs.
Senator Colin Kenny said no one on the committee wants to see an increase in drug use.

Thor,
I really hope that Canada does legalize the Green. 
I hope my brothers to the North will help show the government of the United States that responsible drug use will work.
There is too many people sitting in jail or prison for using a plant that God himself made....now that is the real crime!
The message at Seattle's Hempfest this year was "Come out of the closet".

I almost married a gal from Vancouver B.C. when I was 20 years old.
She didn't want to move to Seattle....and I didn't want to move to Vancouver.
We saw each other for 2 years....that 148 miles became a wall. 
This was my only regret I have made in my life....after 42 years of living.
I should have moved to be with her....she was a beautiful person inside and out.
If Canada does legalize mj before the USA..... I will have 2 regrets.
That I didn't leave my country to be with the woman that I loved.....and that I didn't leave my country to live in a Better one!

there has been a lot of good things happing to us potheads latly. I can tell by the time im old enough to have kids that marijuana will be legalized

My girlfriend and I have already decided that if Canada actually does follow through with this, we're movin up there!  Oh crap, do I need to know french to live in Canada! JK

My eyes light on "restricted use", and:
"Under the report's guidelines, marijuana use would be restricted to adults, and criminal law would still apply to producing and selling it. " (CBC article link)
This is a nice step forward, especially as it creates a national forum for debate and consideration of pot, but the creeps who made the laws still keep them...in their original intent; control. As long as they wish to orchestrate the masses, we should probably ignore all the laws. But for those who don't: Kickass news! It'll be fun to watch all the blue conservative rats shake in their boots anticipating the american govt's reaction on this.
