Hidden Stairs Lead To Drug Bust

Sheriff deputies in Ellis County say a nine-month investigation has shut down a major marijuana-growing operation in the City of Red Oak.

Deputies raided a home in the 300 block of Pebble Creek Lane Wednesday. Behind the home they found a detached garage, which was being used as a home office.

Investigators say the office appeared normal and included a desk and a bookcase. But the bookcase was actually a secret door.

"If you didn't know about it, you would think it was nothing more than a bookcase. But once we found the key, and turned the key, it released a magnet that was behind the door," said Captain Danny Williams, Ellis County Sheriff's Office.

Once deputies opened the secret door, they quickly discovered a hidden stairwell that led them to two underground rooms. Sheriff Deputies had uncovered an elaborate pot-growing operation.

Sheriff Deputies say 46-year-old Dwayne Nielsen was growing hundreds of pot plants in a sophisticated, underground, hydroponic farm.

"I would have never known," said Sarah Taylor, his neighbor. "If you told me someone in the neighborhood was growing pot, I would have never guessed it was him."

Nielson apparently used a "mother plant" to produce an unlimited supply of marijuana seeds. The operation was capable of turning out $1 million worth of pot a year.

"I was very impressed. I've been with the sheriff's department for 22 years, and I have never seen an actual hidden room like this one," said Williams. "Usually you see this kind of thing on TV."

Deputies seized 155 plants along with elaborate growing equipment, including lamps and fans.

The nine-month investigation was a collaboration between the Ellis County Drug Task Force, Waxahachie Police Department, the Drug Enforcement Agency and the Red Oak Police Department.

If he'd have kept the operation smaller and only grew for himself and friends, the cops may never have found him out. :frown:

I always love those quotes.  What the fuck is the point of them exactly?  Of course you don't know someone's growing a fucking plant, unless they tell you or you see it.  WTF?  Does the plant scream at midnight or something?

Maybe you didn't fucking know cuz its none of your buisness and just another fucking plant people grow.

Too bad they didn't call this one a "factory".

Usually in these stories every garden becomes a "factory" somehow.

I think they include these types of statements- "I would have never known" and "I would have never guessed it was him"- to encourage people to take a second look at their neighbors.

> Too bad they didn't call this one a "factory".

 I was thinking the same thing!

> Nielson apparently used a "mother plant" to produce an unlimited supply of marijuana seeds

Uh, ok.

endly supply of seeds?

i don't think people grow dro for seeds, and if he had a "mother" plant, then he was taking clone cuttings, what fucktwit cops.

I remember being in DARE when i was much younger and some of the stories they would tell you are not only ridiculous, but completely untrue. One story was that a woman was on LSD and thought her infant was a turkey so she baked it in the oven. Now I look back and think thats hilarious, but at the time I guess it scared me.

Laurenn001 I don't know if I should believe you or not. I have found people do this sometimes in these forums to get attention. Anyway, if it is sorry to hear that.

I feel much safer now. I think I'm going to walk through the hood since this guy is off the streets. Give me a break.

I want to build an underground room, but how the hell would you do that.
