I just got official approval. Not like it really matters, I've been working with mice since last summer. Just had to get my OSH and research animal handling and care certification.

But now I'm officially listed on a few protocols to work with a few species of animals. Horrah!

I love animals, which should be apparent from my posts. But animal research doesn't bother me one bit. It's for the betterment of our species. A few (hundred) dead mice for a few cures for diseases is nothing to me.

Crazy hippie activists can bitch all they want, but when they have Parkinson's disease and I'm close to finding a cure, I bet they'll be singing a different tune.

Research assistant in a neuroscience lab. They're working on experiments with dopamine 1 cells in the basal ganglia, sometimes GABA cells too. It has implications in Parkinson's and Huntington's disease.

I am so freakin impressed, Jesus Gumby, I don't know what to say.

I am also shocked with the amount of professionals on this site, most shocked with Suess, but wow.

Good luck and hope you get to the finish line on your research soon.

Seuss is a freakin genius, pretty much. There are a lot of them on these boards. Check out the Science and Technology forum. They nerd it up so hardcore in there that I don't even understand what they're saying sometimes.

BTW, Chemy, I'm not a professional yet. Bio major in undergrad, I graduate in a year. After that I'm taking a year off to work, study for the GRE, and figure out what the hell I want to get my PhD in.

I was thinking neuroscience but after talking to some of the PhD students and working in this lab... I'm thinking probably not. I might just go with some sort of field biology where I get to study animals from distant lands. That would be :awesome:

The same place as the school on hat that I wore at the gathering.

I'd rather not say on the internets.

I just watched a special on discovery about DNA manipulation and a scientist sucessfully crossbred 2 completely different species of rodents and had a hybrid baby.  It was awsome.

What made it so special was the 2 species of rodent were thousands of times farther apart then humans and apes are.  So it wasnt anything close to breeding something 'similar'

I'm all for animal research for the betterment of mankind, within reason.  Sometimes there has to be loss to find gain, but at the same time it doesnt need to be horribly crazy and not thought out and planned.

Wait till you get to humans.

And if you can, go with rats, they're much better than mice.

Thats cool mang.

Research would be sweet, I am in the process of figuring out my major... I am probably not going to go into business like I thought, its just not that interesting at all. Biology is sweet... just gotta sort out what is feasible for me and etc.
