1st grow 34g shroom *pic*

This was my 1st grow B+. I used 1 1/2 pt of brf to 2 1/2pts of coir. This was done in a 1 gal ice cream bucket, monotub style, and only ended up being 1 inch of substrate. Here's the 1st shroom I ever grew / picked, the fat guy weighed in at 34g wet which turned out to be a little over 3g cracker dry.

Syringe or print is the same, both multi-spore. If it's your first time I'd suggest getting a syringe from a reputable vendor. Or if you wanted to make your own syringe then get a print. I didn't feel like messing up my 1st time so I got a syringe. If you treat that 1 syringe well it will be all you ever need ie: getting prints from grows, LC, g2g, etc.

Wow good job sometimes I wish I learned to spawn to substrate instead of doing cakes. Did you use any kind of casing?

Nope, did it monotub style which is "suppose" to keep the humidity near 100% but I opened it to much so I know my RH wasn't very good as I didn't have many mushies at all (only 6 or 7). The only one that didn't grown on the sides of the tub was the big guy. He was the center of attention.

The original monotub specs said to never open it so that humidity would build up, but that's not a firm, absolute rule. Fluctuations in humidity (as long as it stays near saturation most of the time) can encourage pinning, as can evaporation from the casing layer.

For a mini-monotub like that, you still probably want a casing layer to generate humidity. If you don't want to bother making such a small batch of 50/50 mix, you could just use the verm you have for the cakes. Alot of people swear by verm casings. It'll also let you mist when you open to peek, thus you can replace any moisture you let out.

If you don't use a casing layer, do a search for "wax paper" and limit it to the user name "RogerRabbit." He advocates loosely laying a sheet of crumbled wax paper ofer uncased sub to maintain 100% humidity and stimulate better pinning. That would let you leave your set-up the same and just add a little piece of wax paper. You could even do this with the existing sub for the second flush.

Yeh, I have all that info in my head, this was just a test run for something on a larger scale which is colonizing atm. It was my 1st grow so I just didn't want to go big, but I'm getting more comfortable with the whole proccess. I started out using tin foil until fully colonized (took 2 days) then I went to wax paper and very light misting, then decided to just cover and let it go as that's what the monotub tek suggests.

The 2nd flush pins are coming up better as I'm not opening the tub. Some are on the edge but a few are in the middle as well.

Congrats! Please post some pics of your ice cream tub - I love to see shrooms growing in weird places. I've got a pic of some GT's popping out of a Miller Lite can somewhere that I have to post soon.

Sweeeeeeet!

Side pinning and pinning right at the edge is often an indication that those locations are the best for pinning, usually because they have higher humidity. Anything you can do to raise the humidity will improve your pinsets.

total noob says just make yer cake and when its ready mix it 50/50 with coir(boil water, 1 gallon per brick sized brick, let water cool to warm then mix it all up) and incubate again the way yer cake did, then either case or not in yer FC. noobs a dumbass and he did it with great success
