i dont know about regular ones, but if anyone has ever seen a large (about half an inch or some crazy shit) jumping spider on their dashboard whilst driving you cannot say it didnt make you uncomftorable

People fear spiders because they are mentally undisciplined pussies. Need we go deeper than that?

I saw a fist-sized tarantula walking across the highway in California. I stopped, put on a glove and picked him up and put him on the hood of my car. If I can ever dig through my non-computer photo archives, I will upload a picture.

Well im not afraid of spiders though i certainly dont want their venom in my blood stream.
A place i like to stay in the country gets alot of white tails in particular in that area, and i know if i wake up in the morning and see one walking round near my bed, ill jump up straight away and make sure i havnt been bitten, you can hardly feel these bastards bite.

You MUST find and rent 'Frogs' a cheesy B sci-fi thriller from the '70s. Nature gets pissed off and people get killed by all kinds of animals such as snakes, spiders, crocs and such.

In the grand finale, people get 'hopped to death' by frogs. Methinks they lost a little believability there. It went from scary to funny.

Phobias are not "silly," they are very real negative states of mind-body that can be petrifying and even deadly. The cousin of one of my co-workers had just such an irrational fear of public speaking, and while working on a masters degree had to speak in front of her class. She sustained a fatal heart attack right in front of the class!

I have been successful in the elimination of phobias using hypnosis, as have other hynotherapists. There is always an Initial Sensitizing Event (ISE), a trauma, which creates this living tape-loop in the subconscious. Every subsequent similar event (Subsequent Sensitizing Event or SSE) reinforces the initial one. If there is no conscious memory of the initial event, one does an age regression back to the ISE where it is 're-vivified' (relived in its emotional intensity) and a 'wedge' is driven between the remembered event and the emotional reaction. Then the client is brought back to real time with the emotionally attenuated memory, and the phobic response disappears.

Example: A 23 year old female with a hypodermic syringe phobia. ISE: fell and sliced her face  at age 3, requiring hospital surgical procedure involving several facial injections of Xylocaine/Lidocaine. Client remembered the event so it was easier. Formerly, client would faint at mere sight of needles, and she wanted to start a family with her husband, meaning, blood
tests to her. Result: 45 minutes later, I had client assemble a broken down hypodermic syringe with no phobic response! 20 year phobia gone in 45 minutes.

Even a wrongly-perceived threat to well-being can precipitate a phobic response. My mother told me that dragonflies (which she called "dining needles," a corruption of 'darning needle') stung people. I was bitten while trying to rescue a beautiful specimen from a school building as an adult, but they don't have stingers. I witnessed my mother's urban panic as she screamed at me to get into the house at about age 3, while chasing a harmless insect with a can of 'Dwin,' flower-fragrenced insecticide. For years after that event, I (and my best friend Paul whom I taught my mother's fear to) would run in terror at the mere sight of a dragnonfly. He had a subsequent reinforcing event when he saw a child scream after a dragonfly had landed on him, possibly nipping him with its jaws. Reason eventually overcame the 'old wive's tale' and our ISEs did not result in a phobia which could continue into adulthood, but such things are all too common, and people frequently take offense when one tries to explain to them what's going on. In the case of critters, it's usually "JUST KILL IT!"

Spiders actually fascinate the hell out of me. Sure, I wouldn't want the bastards living in my apartment, but they're one of nature's most interesting creatures. I used to have a fear of them until my first mushroom trip.

I saw one of them in the woods, and it was just clinging peacefully to its web. It looked calm, peaceful, and beautiful in a way. The web it made fascinated me. It was beautiful, and anything that could create such an oddly artistic creation shouldn't be something to fear. So while I'm not a spider fanatic by any means, I definitely respect them if only for their place in nature.

I can understand the fear, though. There's just something odd about how they "walk". But once you learn about them, you realize that they're really not aggressive creatures at all, and actually have quite an important place in the world.

Spiders given LSD create even more precise webs than they usually do. Mescaline, on the other hand, as well as amphetamines, causes chaotic, non-symmetical webs that would be far less efficient in catching prey. Speaking of spiders and trips...
