Extremly Long Extemporaneous Rambling.
    #857727 - 09/01/02 08:39 PM (14 years, 11 months ago)

I was thinking about the Wonderland Book. Now I do not do this often, it was just the last thing I had read before  I
logged off. So, I got asking myslef what character did I like.

And, I hate to be cliche, but I stil like the catipillar. Yeah, I am aware of the obvious signs its a Stoners Classic,  the Mushroom, the Hookah, but thats not it. Since I was a kid, I was always drawn to the way he smoked.
It was the shapes in the smoke  that formed pictures as he spoke, as he thought, (At least is the way I rememebr it in my mind) I havent read it through in a few years. And forget about me sitting through that cartoon again.)
So, yeah, the catipillar is my fave character, If I Had to pick.

I am much more interested in beginng a book I found by accident. And, yes I am remiss in not getting to this before, but I found a copy of The Rum Diary - by everyones faveroite Hunter S. Thompson.
Never having read the 'Vegas' story, but enjoying most of the Movie version, I had to ge tthe Book. My motto is, the "Book is always better" and 9 times out of 10 They are right.

it sez on the back cover it was written wgeb Thompson was 22. Pretty young, I wonder how it will fare against Vegas. then I must remmebr Wolfe was , wat 5 when her began composing. i dont know how good they were, but Im sure they sounded better than most 5 year olds at a piano.
I wasted 5 days reading 2001: A spoce oddity.
not that the book wasnt excelent, it was, but it took too long for me to read. It was so short, yet so chock filled with images, pseudo-technish, which added to the mystery of space. And expnatinions of Size, and things relating to size.
Not eazy for me to read through all that with out tryung to build it in my mind.
I may possibly post on it.
So, I am now read this other book I didnt want called "This Swell babe." Its written in that 50's slang, and its starting to wear on me. It keepos making me want to drink some hard liquor, and grab a couple of smokes, two things I dont do. (good writing?) I dont think Im going to write about it, its not that interesting.
See, I told you it was long, and look, no payoff.

The Rum Diary is a good read...

I think it's just further evidence that Thompson has the natural gift of writing. Thompson's, "The Hells Angels: A Strange Terrible Sage," is also HIGHLY recommended!

No comments on 2001...
