Parkour
    #8269258 -

What a badass sport! Why have I never heard of this? Where have you been all my life?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Parkour
Quote:
Parkour (sometimes abbreviated to PK) or l'art du déplacement[1] (English: the art of displacement) is an activity with the aim of moving from one point to another as efficiently and quickly as possible, using principally the abilities of the human body.[2][3] It is meant to help one overcome obstacles, which can be anything in the surrounding environment — from branches and rocks to rails and concrete walls — and can be practiced in both rural and urban areas. Parkour practitioners are referred to as traceurs, or traceuses for females.[4]

Founded by David Belle in France, parkour focuses on practicing efficient movements to develop one's body and mind to be able to overcome obstacles in an emergency.

Did you see Casino Royale? The man being chased in the beginning is like the Tiger Woods of Parkour (or "free running").

Yeah, I read an article in Rock Ice magazine last night and it mentioned that flick. I'm going to have to watch it again, now.

Link fixed...
Free running and parkour aren't the same thing.

There was a good documentary about the sport called Jump London that came out a few years ago.

Check out the French flick "District 13" for some more awesome parkour work.

I see it as proof that we evolved from monkeys.

Nah, monkeys evolved from us.

We're the ones who work for a living.

It looks like it would be a blast to learn but they must get injured a lot.

Welcome evermore to gods and men is the self-helping man.  For him all doors are flung wide: him all tongues greet, all honors crown, all eyes follow with desire.  Our love goes out to him and embraces him, because he did not need it.

Fuck yes. I came across some videos of this shit a year or so back, and I REALLY REALLY wanted to do it. It looks incredibly fucking liberating.

I was a monkey when I was a kid... climbing everything... but my core stability has been shot since I broke both legs. I'm slowly trying to get back on the horse in that sense, through yoga and biking.

Maybe someday, if I can get my leg/hip/back strength back to where my core feels stable most of the time.

I'd probably just break my legs, though...

Anyone know who the band is in the first video? It has been a very long time since I heard a punk-rock-esque song that caught my interest. I haven't been interested in the genre in ages, but that song hit a sweet spot in my ears...

Not sure, but it sounds like a Fat Wreck Chords band. Maybe No Use For a Name, or Guttermouth?

Lefty, you have a link to a good instructional for getting started on some small training?

Actually listening to that song, now, it kinda sounds like Jawbreaker, but it's not them. I'll find out, though. It is a good song.
