Almost wrecked on the way to work
    #8158682 -

i was on my work to work, driving on a country back road that cut from my small town(not hometown, im from the city) to another town that is bigger than mine. i was driving 70-75 as usual on the two lane road(one lane for each direction).

then, out of nowhere, two deer stood in the middle of my lane. they started walking to the left(my left/the other lane) but then stopped and were blinded my my head lights. they just stood there, starring at me as i quickly approached. i had no time to slow down and i knew that i would be better off hitting them straight on than swerving.

but i couldn't hit the poor things and i swerved just to my right, just missing them and spinning my jeep out of control. the whole time, i thought "there's no way im saying on the road". the road had deep ditches on each side too. then i came to a stop and i was still on the road.

my whole jeep spun 270 degrees(3/4's of a circle) and was facing the ditch in my original lane. i proceeded to work.

im going to start leaving 10 minutes earlier and drive slower.

:shake:

WAY too fast for a 2 lane road IMO.
Especially a country road that is subject to have varmits on it.

Slow down my brother.

Hitting the deer is a pretty bad option in itself. It's apt to totally wreck your car as much as swerving and ending up in the ditch.

i noticed this when i was approaching it. i knew it was going to hit so hard i just couldn't hit it. but i did notice that as soon as i swerved, it began to run.

next time im going to slow down, and turn off my lights...?

Maybe flash the lights? I don't know how you break a deer from that fear-eyed deadlock.

I've hit a few deer and I would never swerve.  Id rather maintain control of my vehicle if AT ALL possible.  Swerving is likely to end up in a head on collision.  No deer hit would be that bad.

if there were other cars, i would have just hit it. but the road was clear. next time i wont swerve, but im hoping there wont be a next time.

if i had gone off of the road, how bad do you all think it would have been?

You'd not be posting for a lil while in most cases and spend some time in the hospital. Best case- scratches, worst case- dead.

Didn't you say you were in a Jeep?

I think off road would have been safer.

Once a deer hit my dad's car. It ran straight into the side and left a pretty massive dent

A friend of mine hit a deer and totaled his car.

I'd think you have a better chance if you swerve (in smaller cars). At least then you might make it out okay. I would have done the same thing in your situation...even with my crappy extremely not off road capable car.

Glad you're still here with us.

Jeeps roll easy as shit, you're lucky. Best to slam the breaks and keep it straight. Honking helps.

Please people the last thing you want to do is cut the wheel. It is extremely easy to lose control and roll a vehicle. I have seen my fair share of accidents and can assure you cowgold gives good advice.

invest in a deer slayer (heafty grill guard) ive mowed down a few deer in trucks with grill guards unintentionally of course. in cars i just stomp on the breaks and pray. never swerve going that fast...maybe in a vette or a viper
