favorite old movie?
    #8159054 -

for some reason i dont like to watch old movies... im talking pre-1970.

i find old movies full of dead people depressing. however there are some old movies i cant flip past. mostly because my parents both had their formative years in the 60s. so them watching certain movies when i was a kid turned me on to some of the "classics".

my dad would watch the war movie, "From Here To Eternity" everytime it was on when i was a youngin. now when i see it on TMC or AMC i always watch...frank sinatra knife fighting and shit.

"The Good, the Bad and the Ugly" is another one my dad got me into. I loved the cowboy shoot-em up.

then my mom was the biggest audrey hepburn fan. most of the time i dismissed those movies with her in them as chick flicks. however i ended up seeing "Breakfast at Tiffany's" so many times when i was a kid, i actually like the movie. whats funny is, when it was on a few days ago, i watched it and realized how adult the themes were. i never realized holly was a prostitute and the guy she calls "george" was banging that old lady for cash.

i think i want to start watching some other classic old movies. what old "classics" should i watch?

Citizen Kane - Not the most entertaining movie, but ground breaking in the fact that it was the first movie to use the same actor to play the young and old version of his character.
Double Indemnity - awesome film noir
Rear Window - Great Alfred Hitchcock classic with Jimmy Stewart and the beautiful Grace Kelly.

One Flew over the Cuckoo's Nest - Not pre 1970 (1975), but one of my favorite all time movies.

Seriously, there has never been an actor as good as Brando, and he hated acting, he just did it to pay the bills.
Even watching Apocalypse Now blows me away and he was much better in his earlier stuff.

You mentioned "The Sting" (which is fantastic) and it made me think of another classic...
"Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid"
One of my all time favorites!
