I'm an IDIOT.  For the years I've known Final Fantasy I've always wondered why they called the potion a Phoenix Down.  I took "Down" as in the opposite of "up" for some reason :lol:.  It confused the shit out of me.  Then just today I'm watching Harry Potter and it just smacks me in the face.  I now realize they mean "Down" as in the tiny feathers on the bird :lol:.  Just one of those really dumb moments lol.  Anyway, here's a bit of Final Fantasy humor...

I always though it was because when a Phoenix goes down, it actually goes up due to rebirth

Yeah, I'd actually made the same connection, "Pheonix Down"/"Blackhawk Down", it brings them back to life cuz when pheonix's go down they come back to life!

I actually only got it a few years ago because I was reading one of the FF guidebooks and looking at an entry for the potions when someone brought up a Goose Down comforter.

What I find FAR more amusing....

What do you universally use to regain your mana in the FF games? What substance is it that allows you to use MORE MAGIC if you injest it..........?

Yeah I had that same epiphany a while ago. It's cause you associate the down with somebody dying. But then I realized it always has a feather icon so i shoulda knowed.

BTW, although FFVII is definitely my favorite I think FFIX doesn't get nearly the amount of love it deserves.

I would rank 7 the best
6(3 in America) next best
Tactics(if you count that) third best.

probably 5,9,8,mystic quest,4,2,1

I always thought it just meant its some kind of potion that brings you back to life, which is what it did. And I know phoenix's die and are reborn again but never knew what the 'down' meant.

Oh yea. I forgot about 10. 10 would go after 5, before 9.

Never finished 12 though.

11 doesn't count.

And the GB ones do not count either. ie. Adventure, Legend, Legend II and Legend III.

10 was alright but I really miss the world map. It gave it a much more "RPGish" feel.

12 was fun but I never finished it.
