Greeetings friends, Brukan here.
Me damsil and I are preparing to make a chamber where one could dry, oh say, fresh shitake mushrooms to a bone dry cracker! Ahhh, tis nice eh! Yets me damsil and I are running into difficulties finding a good container where we can rig two different layers....the top wire-frame layer for the shitakes and the bottom layer for holding the "drying" powder. ARRRG (dam elves, away with ya you vermon). So sorry....Would ye share your methods for creating shuch a chamber. Ai, wud be much appreciated

all i did was get a damprid container that already has a ?double boiler? type setup. there is a net insert which holds the chunks suspended inside a bigger bucket. on top of this, i put a glad storage container. all i did was cut a hole a little smaller than the top diameter of the the bucket, slipped the storage container on their, then taped it up to seal and hold the container. fot the spot the shrooms lay on, it?s just the damprid container?s lid with ?stripes? cut out of it. it would be much better to use a metal screen of somesort, but i didn?t want to go buy 20 square feet of mesh when i only needed about 4 square inches....works for me!

another simple way the works well is to just dump one of them 48 ounce damp rid refills into a small/medium rubbermade. and use a dish rack thing to suspend the shrooms over it.
Make sure NOT to let the mushroom touch the damp rid as they will soak up the damp rid and thn the par the soaks up damp rid will not dry out.

Would one of those dehydrators work? I could do beef jerky AND shrooms at the same time! lol

Yeah, I read on an FAQ from Erowid that dehydrators work very well for dehydrating mushrooms.

The DampRid is great! DampRid even has a website ( http://www.damprid.com ). HAHA, awesome. I went to a supermarket today and found that exact container of DampRid you have in the picture (12oz.). I opened it up and saw that double boiler style you mentioned. The white pellets are individually wrapped in plastic. It's perfect! The design leaves space for moisture to fall to the bottom, and the chunks of white pellets are large and suspended in the upper compartment. Then the rig you designed would be perfect! Thanks again felix!
p.s. the white pellets are calcium chloride (CaCl), which is a non-toxic inorganic salt product.

you got a damn nice setup there felix, but i just wanted to let ya kno that at most hardware supply stores (ie. OSH and the like, probably home depot, etc), they have giant rolls of wire and you can buy however much/little you desire. you just gotta ask one of the employees to help you out.

thanks man....i like this little chamber because i don't grow mass amounts at a time. i just always have a nice even flow and the lid pops on and real easy. i think im gonna get some mesh. oh yeah, the shrooms dry in their in about a day, maybe day and a half.

i'll usually just air dry the shrooms with a fan for a day, then finish 'em off in the dessicant chamber, that way i conserve my dessicant (i kno you can dry it out in the oven, but i'm a lazy fuck and don't like to hastle with that)

Re: oven drying
I wouldn't even recommend that dude, you risk the "elf spice" being exposed to heat! I read on www.erowid.org FAQ that oven drying can increase chances of this
I think air drying first then chamber drying is the best method
