Canadian Nash is also keen to differentiate himself from the Americans currently involved in Premier League clubs. While Randy Lerner (Aston Villa), Malcolm Glazer (Manchester United) and George Gillett and Tom Hicks (Liverpool) have all bought clubs as an investment, Nash insists he would not be fiscally motivated.
'Unlike them, I've been a passionate supporter all my life.
My parents are from north London and so it's not like I'm some Yank who wants to make a profit out of football.'
Now I believe he is correct in regards to Malcolm Glazer and the Hicks. Those owners don't use their own money to finance the clubs, and Glazer has gotten Manchester United into some serious debt, but he can stfu about Randy Lerner.
If I recall correctly Randy went to study in England when he was younger and supported Aston Villa from then. He even has a tattoo of the club badge. He spends his own money to help the club, renovating a nearby pub for the fans to have a gathering place, organizes free traveling to away games, giving out free scarves, etc etc.
Randy Lerner is the best thing to happen to this club for a long, long time and I won't hear a bad word against him. Especially when it's not even true.

Something like that. He's been in 'regular contact' with Tottenham Hotspur. Apparently because his parents are from the area it makes him the only true fan of the sport in North America.

You realize you have not posted anything in which Nash said anything bad about Randy Lemur. You have some 3rd person narrative saying that Nash was referring to him, but really all you have is a quote taken out of context. It would be better if you could read the transcript from the actual interview to see if he was indeed talking about your boy.

How am I taking it out of context?
He said 'Unlike them', indeed meaning the other American owners of English football clubs - Randy Lerner, George Gillett and the Hicks.

I didn't say you are taking it out of context. The article does. You don't know what they were talking about before Nash made that statement. You assume he was talking about all of the other American owners but there is no proof of that in what you posted. "them" in that case could have meant all 3 owners, or just 2 of them. You don't know.

The way it is written leads you to believe that he was talking about all three of them, no?
I think that if he wasn't talking about Randy as well then he would've said something along the lines of 'Like Randy, I'm a passionate supporter and won't be buying just to make a profit etc etc'.

That's my point exactly. The way it is written leads you to think that he is talking about all of them, but there is no evidence that he is based on the actual quote...which is taken out of context.

Not sure about his intentions with that quote, but...
Steve Nash is one of the most unique athletes in the entire NBA, and he's easily the smartest.
I guess he could be a total dick in real life, although I highly doubt it...he genuinely seems like a nice guy whenever I catch a glimpse of him being interviewed.
