Hillary and Obama: It's About to Get Real Ugly
    #8037427 - 02/18/08 11:04 AM (15 years, 11 months ago)

The word on the street is that the Obama campaign and New York Mayor Mike Bloomberg have already met and devised an incredible plan if Clinton wins (steals) the nominee. Mayor Bloomberg would give nearly $1 billion to Obama's campaign after which Obama would bolt from the Democratic Party and run as an Independent candidate with king-maker Bloomberg as his running mate. The Obama campaign realizes that Obama is too new at this game and doesn't have the political weight of the Clintons to bring in the true heavy-hitters of the party's hierarchy. So, according to sources it was Bloomberg himself who suggested this cunning strategy. It's mind boggling that the Clintons are willing to destroy the entire Democratic Party, and potentially in the process lose the White House and seats in Congress, for their own selfish thirst for power and glory.

Whether or not this sort of madness occurs, the race for the White House is becoming uglier with each passing day. Unless Clinton gets knocked out of this race in the coming days, which is a high possibility considering she has lost ten straight states and got swept last weekend and earlier this week, we can all expect her and her husband to pull out all the stops to get her through. But the fact remains, she is not nearly the candidate that Obama is, and the Democratic Party would be far better served to quickly move to support Obama and make him the nominee.

Bloomberg working on ballot access ahead of '08 decision

Bloomberg operatives have spent the past several months assembling the skeleton of a nationwide ballot access movement so that it will be off and running if the billionaire launches a presidential run.

The effort to get on the ballot varies greatly from state to state; some require little more than a small fee while others ask for specific numbers of signatures from registered voters, which can only be collected at certain times.

Bloomberg's most elaborate study of ballot access has already concluded in Texas. The deadline for him to get on the ballot there is May 12, but petitioners can only begin collecting signatures after the state's March 4 major party primary.

After Texas, several states follow with June deadlines, including Arizona, Illinois, Colorado and North Carolina.

While the Bloomberg operation believes the mayor can begin ballot drives without declaring his candidacy, the Federal Election Commission has strict rules about how far Bloomberg can go before he is considered a candidate, and therefore bound by financial disclosure requirments.

According to spokesman Bob Biersack, Bloomberg can spend as much of his own money as he wants on so-called "testing the waters" activities. He can travel, he can pay for polls, he can build any number of elaborate databases to assess his appeal and potential message as a candidate.

He cannot, however, put out messages that say he is a candidate or urge anyone to support him. More importantly, he cannot spend money on ballot access activities, such as paying companies to gather signatures.

Once Bloomberg spends $5,000 on anything that is no longer testing the waters, he must register as a candidate with the FEC and follow the same financial disclosure rules as the other candidates.

And the Obama running Independent talk is already happening, just like I predicted it would in the super delegate thread when I saw the MSM parahiazing Obama supporters by calling them cult-like and creepy.

I respect Armstrong Williams but do you seriously think Obama would do this?

I would love it if he did! McCain vs Clinton vs Obama

Personally i think its only a threat to the DNC.

:rofl2:

Lonestar, I beg to differ that it was a good move for him to threaten leaving the party.

You saw how it worked against Paul. By putting it in the minds of people that you may have to run 3rd party/Independent, it weakens the appearance of your over all electability.

Can Bloombergs money buy Obama a spot in the Presidential debates between the Republican and Democrat nominee?

NOPE!!!

If you aren't in the MSM Presidential debates, you can forget about being elected into the WH.

This talk of his threatening to leave the party with an Independent run getting out is a knee capping to Obamas run, not Hillary's.

It suggests he has to consider it because he ultimately doesn't have the support of his Party's muscle.

Time will tell more...........

yeah Obama leaving the party is a bad idea over all. because he also wouldn't be able be in sponsered debates with Hillary, and would also most likely gain negative media attention, which is above all what you want to avoid in a race..... look what they did to Ron Paul

No I don't think he would and and I also think Obama knows jack shit about this and the leak "source" was from a mole.

Look at this line from the first link you gave-

The Obama campaign realizes that Obama is too new at this game and doesn't have the political weight of the Clintons to bring in the true heavy-hitters of the party's hierarchy

That is a severe knee capping to his run trying to imply the Obamas campaign realizes he can't win the Democrat Nomination.

If I was running in this race neck and neck with someone, even leading by a tad, and someone from my Campaigns HQ said what I quoted, they would be soooooooooooooo fucking fired if I found them out!!!!

Back when he ran, 3rd parties could be invited.

The rules have changed since then. The two party's bought control of the Presidential debates (bullied them out of control) from the League of Women voters and now they no longer invite 3rd party or Independents into them.

This fall, American idol watching America will be seeing Hillary and McCain in them and who cares if they see a bunch of Obama commercials and ads on the sidelines, they will see him as being a a weak, butt hurt baby looser trying to play with the big boys.

Seems far to many Americans want to support who they think will win at the end of the day, not who they want to win- The whole "wasted vote" thing really took with the dumbed down minds of America.

More then half of his support would jump ship to Hillary if she gets the nod and the Super delegates know it.

You also need the co-operation of MSM to win. Bloombergs money can't buy that either. Obama will get ignored by them on an Independent ticket. They'd turn him into yesterdays news, really fast.

Edit P.S. Perot was the Green party nominee when he was invited to the debates.

Yes. And his Veep was in the Veep debates, I think his name was Stockdale. He famously asked in one of them, "Who am I? What am I doing here?"

Do you have any kind of link to any information about the Parties' purchase of control? Sounds like bullshit to me.

American Idol watching Americans will continue to do just that. Watch American Idol. They will also be seeing his oh so telegenic mug on billions of commercials run on American Idol.

At the end of the day they will have a choice between 2, maybe 3, candidates. And Nader (chuckle chuckle snort).

I wouldn't be so sure about the MSM. An Obama indy run will hurt Clinton badly in fund raising and Bloomy bucks can add a whole lot of attention.

I don't think it's going to happen though. It would be too good.

I'm sure they'll have no problem jumping on Obama if the opportunity presents itself.

If an independent candidate has more than 5% of the voter's support, he's allowed to participate in the debates. So the threat actually works in Obama's favor, because the support won't jump to Hillary since he's still viable.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Commission_on_Presidential_Debates

That's a wiki link to the sponsorship change in the debates from the Women League of Voters over to a commission formed/run by the Democrats and Republicans and sponcered by a private Corporations.  (No biased agendas there )

As of last, it looks like you have to have at least 15% voter support over 5 different national polls to qualify to be invited. Still, it looks like the new commission can change the rules whenever they want to. They run it. Read why the league pulled out.

I wouldn't feel 100% sure they would invite Obama if he ran Indy.

If it all were to happen, things will get more entertaining for sure.

I don't see it happening with Obama.

I'd like to know if Lou Dobbs is going to go for an Indy run.

Sweetheart I love ya (your politics suck but you're alright) but this was in your Wiki:

Quote:

The organization, which is a nonprofit, bi-partisan corporation, has sponsored each of the presidential debates held since 1988.

H. Ross Martian was in 1992.

My memory from the article I read months ago on it just sucks.

I posted the corrections.;)

Doesn't matter to me that it's a non profit corporation that sponcers it. They get their money from somewhere and don't you think the debates should be run by a non partisan group? The article just said that the Corporation funding it was non partisan. The democrat and Republican party's which decide the format, rules and pick moderators can definitely sway the presidential debates in the favor of their two parties over a 3rd or Indy competitor.

Like this discussion matters now anyway.

I'm not sure who here believes Obama would leave his party to run with Bloomberg on an Indy ticket. I'll believe it when I see it.
