my hamster is dying

So my hamster, chewbacca, now has cancer. We've had her for two years now, longer than any other pet I've EVER had. The vet said she has a few weeks at most to live. She's still got some spunk, but
physically she ain't lookin' to good.
Got her in LA and she's been with me from Cali, on a CROSS country trip through the states all the way here to DC. Over two years she's gotten lose about 50 times, sometimes for days at a time. She's a
trooper, but she's at her end of days. Gonna be bummed when she finally doesn't wake up one day. ;(
At least there's a nice, peaceful park next to my place to bury her.

I've been weed-dry for months and I'm waiting on this flaky dealer to hook it up this week. When I finally get some I'll blow her a final shotgun .. might as well leave this earth in style.

Very adorable hamster... I lost a mouse to cancer, and another to a stroke that left the lower half of its body paralyzed. Small animals are great as long as they don't bite. I love the pics. Be sure to spend a lot of time with her the next couple weeks, let her know shes loved... All these pet dying threads lately have made me very sad

have you thought about chemo, or purhaps some medical mushrooms?
I do beleive alot of the experiments with medical mushrooms were done on mice and such regarding cancer....just a thought.

R.I.P Chewbacca.
philosophical question:
what happens to animals when they die? what happens to their spirit? is there a special animal afterlife? are they re-incarnated? nothing?

Yea North America's largest cross .. in Texas when we drove cross country. I wanted to get a photo of her next to every state sign I crossed but the car ride relly pissed her off.. it was the only time she ever bit me.
She even busted out of her cage in a hotel room the night before that in New Mexico.
As far as chemo.. naaaa... she's over two years old. Hamsters' life spans are 2.5... 3 if they're lucky. I'll just let nature take its course.

DAYUMN. Heh.. I've got two cats. One is buddies with chewbacca and just watches her and runs next to her ball.
The other, younger one would love nothing more than to eat her.

well...these things happen
-------------------- "If we could sniff or swallow something that would, for five or six hours each day, abolish our solitude as individuals, atone us with our fellows in a glowing exaltation of affection and make life in all its aspects seem not only worth living, but divinely beautiful and significant, and if this heavenly, world-transfiguring drug were of such a kind that we could wake up next morning with a clear head and an undamaged constitution - then, it seems to me, all our problems (and not merely the one small problem of discovering a novel pleasure) would be wholly solved and earth would become paradise." - Aldous Huxley GIVE ME OPIATES OR GIVE ME DEATH

Other studies have shown shiitake's dramatic antitumor effect. At the National Cancer Research Center in Tokyo, mice suffering from sarcoma, a type of virally-induced cancer, were treated with small doses of shiitake extract over short periods of time. The results, published in the U.S. journal Cancer Research in 1970 showed that six out of ten mice had complete tumor regression. At slightly higher concentrations, shiitake was 100% effective--all mice showed tumor regression.

Identical one in Illinois, BTW.
And I'm sorry about your hamster. Losing pets can be worse than losing people sometimes.
