VA votes to ban salvia. Help me to fight back

Pokermush said this in the news feed "When it comes to a public vote, nobody can vote against scheduling a drug. These sorts of votes are usually unanimous or close to it, since no politician wants to look soft on drugs.
These laws can be beat, but only in committee. I'm not familiar with VA specifically, but in general after a law is passed by the house, it then goes to a Senate committee. The committee hears public comment about the bill, then decides whether to allow the full Senate to vote. If it passes committee, it's a sure-thing to pass the full Senate vote.
Phone calls are better than nothing, but not by much. To make a difference, call each of the Senators on the committee and voice your opposition to the bill. Stress that salvia poses no danger whatsoever, and that it can be a critical tool in the state's fight against addictive hard drugs.
But to really defeat this bill, show up at the committee meeting and speak your mind there. For the most part, they aren't going to care about liberties and fairness. They need to know that salvia is harmless and poses no threat to public health or safety to alleviate their fears. Then they need to understand that salvia helps break addictions to meth, opiates, and even alcohol, and that your state can't afford to be taking something off the market that can reduce addiction to hard drugs. Some users actually break their addiction with just a single use of salvia (yes, this is true).
Make sure the committee members understand that if they are serious about fighting drug addiction, what they really need to do is figure out how to educate addicts that salvia can help them.
Don't assume someone else will show up to defend salvia. They won't, these laws are almost always unopposed."
I have decided to take class off, and go before the committee when they decide to meet on this issue. I don't know how any of this. If anyone knows how to find out where/when these people are going to meet, could you let me know? And anyone with links to articles showing the true facts on salvia, backed up with scientific data, please let me know too. To be schedule 1 it has to have a high potential for abuse, and I know for damn certain no one abuses salvia. I would love to go before this committee, and fight for salvia (even though I know I'm most likely going to end up even more disappointed in the system, but its worth a shot).

My plan of attack is mainly to show that it doesn't meet the criteria required for a schedule 1 drug (that it has no medicinal value, and that it has a high potential for abuse). The tact I'm going to go with here is that it does not have a high potential for abuse.
Secondly, I'm going to try to show how difficult it would be to enforce a ban such as this, since there exist no current drug tests for salvinorin, and that salvia divinorum, when growing, looks almost identical to many other species of sage. I'm going to throw in that it would take expensive DNA sequencing tests to prove that a specimen is actually salvia divinorum (which may not be true, I don't know) and that treating the case of hybrid species would be especially difficult (I'm assuming they won't know enough about the plant itself to know that its mainly a sterile species).
Any suggestions are appreciated.

Thanks for the encouragement. Glad to know you don't care enough to try. You might be right, but if no one even tries to convince them to do otherwise, then theres no hope at all is there?

Coaster, sorry, but shut the fuck up. Your apathy isn't helping anyone...
There have been states where Salvia has stayed legal BECAUSE AND ONLY BECAUSE people fought it. Dragonchaser, if I were you, I would most definitely propose the idea of a 18+ age limit. That way, politicians won't have to worry about looking like they're "soft on drugs."
