So my nose is bleeding right now

Don't you hate it when it just happens like that for no reason?

Well I do know that I opened the window. My room was hot and it's really cold out there.


Anyway, what's up?

No actually I have a very sensible nose. Ambient temperature or humidy changes may affect it.

Wrong. I always get nose bleeds when it's winter time. The dry air does it.

Nothing better to start your day than a nose bleed in the shower :frown:

Chronic nosebleeds are a problem I have been dealing with my entire life. They were especially bad at my university, where I was exposed to steam heat for the first time at age 18. During the winter semesters, I would have nosebleeds everywhere I went, almost every day, because every building, including the residence halls, were steam heated. After the bleeds, I'd have almost no energy, and went on academic probation for most of my winter semesters. After seven years, I was still working on graduating when my creditors lost their patience and forced me out.

Doctors have never had a clue. They still don't. The most extreme treatment I've had was having a vein cauterized, which did no good whatsoever. I've learned a few things, though, and have almost eliminated my bleeds, finally, at age 32.

First of all, there are two types of bleeds, sinus bleeds and rhino bleeds. Your sinuses are in your head. In order for weaknesses in your sinuses to heal, you need to heal the inside of your nose, too. So, the big joke is don't pick your nose. But it's a lot more complicated than that. Throughout my life, the inside of my nose gets so dried out from low humidity it feels like I can't breathe. You have to train yourself to keep your finger AND tissue out of your nose. Never put tissue inside your nose. Only use tissue to catch dripping mucus. Tissue actually rips your mucus membranes open and causes bleeds. "Boogers" are actually mucus membrane sheds or scar tissue. Just look at them, they looks like skin for a reason. This is the result of tissue inside your nose healing from not putting your finger or tissue inside of it. Try not to blow your nose, either. It's less bad than picking or using tissue inside your nose, but what you really want to do is swallow dried mucus. You know what I'm talking about. After a few hours of being outside in the cold, you have hardened tissue that with some practice you can make yourself swallow. After a few days, you might have some huge scar tissue "boogers." If you can't swallow them, you can gently pull them out. Try not to do this, though.

After a while, you'll notice an improved sense of smell. As it turns out, chronic rhinitis is common in people and for a small segment of the population (us) it leads to nosebleeds. But with some self-control (crossing your fingers to prevent yourself from picking your nose might help), you can get the chronic inflamation down and while your nose is healing your sinuses will heal, too.

That's how I went from daily nosebleeds to one every couple of months at age 32. Read my advice and don't bother listening to your doctor when he tells you to get a humidifier. I've ran several AT ONCE. Improved my diet to near perfection. Even had a surgical procedure (above). None of that worked.

Good luck and hopefully I can help at least one other soul with my experience.

Oh, and the nosebleeds I have now are drop of blood or so whereas in the old days I'd bleed out cups of blood for hours sometimes.
