Bass Players out there...

I have a shitty Ibanez GAXB and a shitty kramer amp. In any case, the high G# (13th fret) on the G string sounds very buzzy (only one on the string), the tone control is frustrating (a switch, not a dial) and the overall tone of it is not that great. In any case, my amp is a complete piece and has abysmal sound.
My question is... what do you guys think would be more valuable to upgrade? I don't have the money now and im saving everything I got for it (besides my festival adventures) which isn't really much. In any case, I would like to at least figure out what im saving FOR. Any advice would be lovely. thanks!

the amp is the most important thing for tone and sound. save up and get a good amp. as for your buzzing string, just take your bass into a guitar shop and have them do about $50 worth of work on it. they'll adjust the truss rod and intonate you bass. it will probably fix your buzzing and make your bass play and sound better as a whole. chances are your bass came off an assembly line and never had this done, so simply getting someone to do it will improve things a lot for it. definitely get a good amp though. that's what's important.

A good amp will make any bass sound better. A bass will only sound as good as the amp it's played on.
That said I would buy a bass first, you don't have to sound good if you can't play to begin with.
Also for the buzzing, it sounds like you might have a warp or some wear on the fret board, especially if it's only in one spot. I've never had to fix that sort of problem but I know it can be done I would bring it to a music shop and see what they say.

if it's only on one fret, there is a high fret somewhere above it.

if you play excessively on one part of the neck you can wear frets down too.
there's also the possibility of a warp. wood can warp from temp. or humidity.

automan, I've had the pleasure of hearing you play some beautiful guitar, do you play bass as well?

I would buy the bass just cause it is more satisfying to own than the amp.

Get an amp first. 120W would be a good size to go for. As it's already been said, fixing a small problem on the bass isn't that big a deal.
It'll at least get you by until you've got some throwback for the bass.
Personally, I'd rather not go for a longer period of time with a beginner bass and a shit amp for a more advanced bass, just to bring it home and plug it in to that amp. It wouldn't be doing it justice.
