Walmart Gift Cards, Visa? Explain.

I was in the line at WalMart today and just as I was leaving I noticed something, but I didn't have time to sit there and investigate....

In the checkout line above all the other crap they bombard you with during your wait, and trust me, you WAIT. In the gift card area (money gift cards) there was a VISA one and physically on the card it said $50.00 gift card. But the WalMart sticker price on the card said $3.49

What kind of shit is this? Anyone know?

I believe the difference is that you can use the "Visa" card anywhere Visa is accepted. The Walmart price is probably how much it cost to load the card with cash.

Yeah it's essentially a debit card with fifty bucks on it and you're paying for the privilege of putting said fifty bucks on it.

I don't see what's wrong with just giving cash. I know I would prefer it.

I think with these visa ones though if you loose it and call them they can cancel the card and replace yours, maybe I'm not sure though.

Okay, thanks guys.....

Why don't they just sell them as $50 dollar gift cards like all the other $20, $30 and $50 gift cards? I guess people might steal them, but hell the other cards are right there as well to be stolen so they must not be that worried about it. I dunno. I hate Wal Mart anyway.

They don't have to steal the card just the number off the back and then wait for someone to activate it and all they have to do is place an order online with the account number.

Could someone do the same now? I mean, if they have the number off of the card they still just have to wait for someone to buy it, activate it and put money on it. Then it's shop time right?

I know they can with gift cards for sure people started doing it last year during the holiday and unfortunately there is nothing you can do because Witt the gift cards once the money is gone it's gone, which why you need to check the the silver coating that you scratch off to get the account number is still on the card because that would most likely mean someone wrote that number down and is waiting for someone to activate it. But I have no idea with the Visa gift cards I have never seen one and don't know where the account number is located.

Its a PREPAID VISA card from walmart. You can use it anywhere visa is accepted or at walmarts.
