Drying with Kitty Litter

Heyas,

I just picked my first flush of EQs this Saturday. My problem seems to be getting them dried properly. I have 4, 1 liter rubbermaid containers each filled around 1/2 way with Fresh Step Crystals-Kitty Litter.. I placed around a handful of shrooms onto a screen in each container. And as of today they are still not cracker dry. NOTE: I did not fan dry them for 24 hours first.. Too noisy for my rooms. They definetly feel dryer than on Saturday but some shrroms feel fuzzy or have green streaks on them.. Are these shrooms going bad on me? ;/

I'm wondering what I am doing wrong, many people on here claim to use the same kitty litter with silica gels and have cracker dry shrooms within 2-3 days. Is it possible that with the kitty litter I just put the shrooms directly ontop without a screen to seperate things? Could placing shrooms directly in a drying chamber extend the processes a few days?

And finally.. Would these shrooms be safe to eat even though theyve been sittin in there for 5 days and still not dry.. Cause I would like to trip on some of these sweet mushies today =)

Bake the kitty litter at 250 degrees for 1 hr, before and after using it. If your not fan drying first you should also bake a few times during drying. Get a cheap humidity gauge for your drying chamber so you will know when the silica need to be baked.

You're ruining your shrooms, dude! YOU MUST FAN DRY OR USE A DEHYDRATOR before finishing off with silica gel or any other desiccant.

They MUST be dried as fast as possible to avoid rotting and potency loss.

If they've been sitting in your containers for 5 days and aren't near dry yet and are turning green, I'd be willing to bet you've lost more than 50% potency already.

Oh shit now im really confused! I thought you could just dry with DampBeGone or something and that's it. You have to fan them for 24 hours beforehand!?!

Whats so hard about fan drying? All you gotta do is set them on a table, with a fan blwoing for a day. Doesnt take any work....

Got to agree with the fan drying. I did a flush on Damp-Rid and had cracker dry rooms in 3 days, but I had to change the DR every 12 hours....

I just yanked the heater element on my Food Dehydrator and the 2nd flush had been on there about 24 hours and I'm way ahead of were I was last time.

Im gonna dry with selica gel on my next flush but do u HAVE TO seperate the shrooms from the
kitty litter with a screen or can it lie on it??? And when u fan dry for 24 hours, is it
ABSOLUTELy necessary to have a clean room...i mean my room aint spick and span but at the same time
it aint a pig sty..would that suffice??

Cleanliness has nothing to do with anything when it comes to drying.

Dry 'em in a barn or a sty or a hospital.

After fan drying put em in a ziplock bag with a sock full of silica gel.

Go to Ace hardware and buy some calcium chloride, a.k.a. Damp rid. It is a dessicant that drys the shit out of them. It is extremely cheap too.
