Hermit thread

Who here lives in the wilderness miles from civilization?

How do you make it work for you financially?

Can you get decent internet out in the woods/desert?

Because I think that if I could figure out how to make a living as a hermit and had good internet and decent postal service (just make a round trip to the post office in the nearest village once a month) that I'd be off in an instant.
The drawback would be lack of social life, but since I don't have one to begin with and don't particularily miss having one, that would be no problem.

Just some questions to ponder at the start of a new year.

Yeah,
I must be the only cave dweller with a generator and a broadband connection.

I don't think you can live in the wilderness away from civilisation and still expect to have the internet, post and a financial life!??

It's the 21st century. Anything is possible through the miracle of information technology. Is it wrong to ask for solar powered broadband internet? The jetpacks and flying cars they promised me  haven't arrived either, at least not in any usable form. We're not vacationing on the moon let us at least do this right as a species.

And Wiccan, bringing up that guy isn't fair. He thought (still thinks?) that modern technology went too far, I think it doesn't go far enough.

Come on people dream a little. The future is ours to grasp. 2008 will bring progress greater than your wildest dreams.
If only there was a market for preserved elk droppings... I'd be an internet millionaire living in my own geodome.

If you think away the moustache and the glasses he'd look just like me in my Shroomery hoodie an I am pretty handy with electronics...

Luckily my urges to fire stinger missiles at airliners (when they fly in low in the middle of the motherfucking night keeping me from sleep) stay safely locked away in my fevered insomniac fantasies.

i live underground with the moles and reptiles, youd be suprised just how much goes on underground... there are secret cities buried deep in the earth, and deep in the old forests that have no internets of external technology yet speak clearly as one, ets in the sun
