My advice is to stick with a cool mist and get a timer that lets you set in 15 minute intervals, it took about 2 hours of adjusting the timer to get to 90% constant. What works for me is 30 min on every 2 hours. Is there a reason you want to use ultrasonic over the other alternatives, I hear they are a real bitch to calibrate.

i am going to put everyting in rubbermades so everything looks "normal" for specific reasons.......cool mist are cheaper but who knows what ill do. i think that im probably going to run it for 3-4 hrs in a 24hr period because i have bin all over the place an can only find the hrly timers for lamps....oh well im still a few weeks of from even ordering my spores (still have some kinks to work out i have no corperate sponsership... ) i will probably just get some dryer hose and put a 90 digree bend in it so no droplest can form. it will be siting in a rubbermade to the left of the 112qt rubbermade contaier so i figure that sould be "ideal" the only thing im going to have to work on is the calabration to keep the humidity around 85-90% when the pins start forming......you keep it at 100% pre-pining, correct?? thanks for your thoughts......

Its really not up to you on how long you leave the humidifier on, I personally like more than 3 air exchanges a day so I adjusted my timer accordingly. Sometimes it gets weird in that you would think you would have more humidity if you left it on 24/7 but thats not the case because so much air is getting pushed through you actually lower your humidity. Thats why you need to spend at least a day before your jars are colonized and make sure you get your shit calibrated. They have the 15 min interval timers are Eckerds. And no, I leave the terrarium alwys at 90 even during pre pin, but thats not for cakes, if you are using cakes you will want it a bit higher.

I bought a 15 minute interval timer at Wal-Mart. You can get most of the stuff you need there. I got my pressure cooker, jars, ultrasonic humidifier, timer, and rubbermaid containers there.

Say, can I have some of your purple berries?
Yes, I've been eating them, for six or seven weeks now, haven't got sick once.
