Norfolk police were searching for a prisoner who escaped Wednesday morning when he attacked a sheriff's deputy, causing the car the deputy was driving to crash into a brick pillar.
The deputy was transporting 27-year-old Timothy Kearney of Norfolk in an unmarked, four-door sedan at about 8:30 a.m. when Kearney attacked the deputy, police spokesman Chris Amos said.
The car crashed into a pillar in a fence outside the Radisson Hotel in downtown Norfolk. Kearney _ still handcuffed _ ran toward a housing project across the street, Amos said.
The deputy suffered a minor injury to his arm during the accident but did not require treatment, Amos said. No bystanders were hurt.
It was not clear whether Kearney had been sitting in the front passenger seat or the back seat, whether there was a partition separating him from the deputy and where he was being taken at the time of the crash.
Kearney was awaiting trial on multiple charges, Amos said.
He was arrested on July 10 and charged with possessing marijuana, obstructing justice and giving a false identity to law enforcement.
When police determined his identity, Amos said, they found he had charges stemming from a single incident in July of 2005: robbery, felonious assault, burglary, two counts of abduction and kidnapping and four counts of use of a firearm to commit a felony. Amos did not have details of the incident.

-------------------- Dr says to stop trying to treat the side-effects of big government and focus on the core issues. End the Federal Reserve/audit the gold reserves at Fort Knox, abolish the IRS, end all wars and occupancies, stop the building of an empire that will inevitably fail, and cut all unconstitutional federal programs. Put the power back in the peoples' hands by ending this nanny-state.

I would never congratulate someone who commits violent and heinous acts like that.
