Amateur Birdwatching

Does anyone else around here do some backyard birdwatching?

I find it relaxing.

Today I got:

A flock of Dark-eyed Juncos.
White breasted nuthatch.
Red breasted nuthatch.
Assorted sparrows.
Mourning Doves.
Northern Cardinal Pair.
Tufted Titmice.

The feeders are getting wet though, I need to refill them soon...

Nice find! Do you disinfect the feeder with a mild solution once a week? What kind of feed mix do you use?

I've always wanted a pair of nigh-vision googles to spot some Great Horned Owls.

saw a huge pileated woodpecker few weeks ago- haven't seen one in years. last year, where i work, there was a nesting pair of red tailed hawks that liked to dive bomb squirrels.

I just rinse in hot water and make sure they're dry when I'm done.

Black oil sunflower is my favorite, just because almost every bird likes it, but I'm trying out generic wild bird seed mix currently. The chickadees flip out over millet.

We also have a suet feeder on a pine tree in the back. We have a downy woodpecker that frequents it. I find suet with peanuts gets the most response.

I'm not looking forward to the war with the squirrels once it starts snowing. They get into everything.
