Who else is an Eagle Scout??
    #7524955 - 10/16/07 07:34 PM (16 years, 3 months ago)

I am. Everyone always dissed boy scouts, but I would not take it back for anything. I went on so many adventures and campouts that would have been otherwise impossible. white water rafting/canoeing, caving, building HUGE fires that singe the tree tops and get the fire department called on you, laid back nights around the fire. Those were the good old days. I honestly think it had a large impact on the way I am now.

I appreciate nature alot more because of it. I also think without the scouts I may not of gotten into psychs because I just love exploring the woods. Well I probably will would have, but it helped. If I am a kid I am going to try to get him to join the scouts. The most important thing is to have good scoutmasters who know how to organize things for the kids and not for themselves. My scoutmasters were awesome and gave us much freedom.

I was a scout when I was younger, and I agree, I had a great time and learned some pretty useful thing too.

I even had a pine wood derby car that made it to the state finals and came in 2nd. But unfortunately there was some issues w/ some of the parents and scout leaders so I left early.

Eagle Scout here. Wouldn't trade my scouting experiences for anything. They are/were a big factor in who I am today.

I am. I loved Boy Scouts. I experienced a lot of things that I never would have as my parents were lame. I got to do a sea-kayaking trip in Georgian Bay and a white water canoe trip up in Quebec.

I must say that scouting has changed much since I was a Scout. The camp I went to when I was a young scout, Glacial Trails Scout Ranch, was an awesome place which allowed us to be our own bosses and offered a ton of "high adventure" type activities. When I moved to NY, I went to a camp that sucked in comparison to GTSR. Massawepie was alright but lacked the spark that GTSR had. The camp almost catered to the kids. All meals were served in the mess hall, and not many high adventure type activities. At GTSR, food was provided but cooked in camp by ourselves. I enjoyed that much more.

My first time on mushrooms was on a Boy Scout backpacking trip. I had a blast. I was hooked instantly.

That is awesome. I would of loved to do that, but by the time I was 16 or so all the cool older kids I hung out with left and I was left with the stereotypical boyscout.  You know...the little annoying bratty kids who never listened to a word you said.

I remember one time I smoked and my scoutmaster said something funny about the smell I forget what, but it made me laugh.  He used to be a dead head so yea.

Nice. My scout master in NY was a vietnam vet who was left kind of fucked up by the war. He was cool has hell, but had some emotional scarring. He didn't really care what we did, as long as no one got hurt. Every camping trip had one good night of getting fucking trashed. A new troop was formed in the little town I lived in just for the kids who didn't like the things that our troop did for fun.

I made it to Star Scout and then I moved before finishing my project for Life scout and never signed back up. I wish I would have. If I have boys they will be in the scouts. Taught me a lot of good stuff but my scoutmaster was an army ranger and his assistant was in the army, my dad was a marina and another father that helped a lot was in the army too so we had drills and our survival camp outs were rough, though we did get drunk as we got older after the old farts fell asleep.....but I could definitely live in the woods and survive if I ever got stranded.

I'm no Eagle scout but a good friend of mine is.
I wish I would have stuck with scouting all the way through as he got to have some excellent experiences through scouting.

He said that their survival weekends and camping trips were always enjoyable as marijuana was one of the few obligatory supplies.

To this day he still volunteers with local troops. The boy scouts seems to be a very positive thing for everyone involved.

Another Eagle Scout right here.

Spending 10 days in the backcountry of Philmont was one of the defining moments of my life. I regret not spending my summers there as a part of trail crew or interpretive staff. Being in the Scouts definitely wasn't cool, but I learned a lot, gained a lot of confidence, and I can plan a damn good vacation/adventure.

boy scouts was an amazing experience. Canoing for 2 weeks in the Arkansas wilderness was one of the best campouts.
To bad i had to be a juvenile delinquent and get myself kicked out when i was 13.

I was a life scout, almost eagle, but i hated it because i was forced to do it so i quit as soon as i got the chance. But now when I look back at it, I realize how much fun I did have while I was one.

And its weird seeing this thread up here because not even an hour ago a guy I know just got his eagle scout thinger tonight. Hearing that brought back memories...
