Mycelia on cardboard!?!?!?
    #747885 -

My dawg put his cake on a pice of cardboard in his terrarium. Now the whole piece of cardboard is covered with the mycelia My question is will this distract the cake from fruiting?

Shouldn't in fact you may see some pins/shrooms growinf from the cardboard. I belive there is a tek that uses cardboard for caseing. Just somemore nutrients for it.

That beign said you may wnat to put aluminum foil under te cardboard piece if you have any perlite in the bottom. That way it won't wick up too much water and get soggy.

Mushrooms that grow on ligin - woodlovers such as oyster, azures and cyans can be well spawned on cardboard - dont think cubies will fruit off that though - cant hurt

bluemeanie is absolutely right. Cubensis CAN grow on "woodlike stuff" but its not what they actually need, so i dont think it will fruit or something, but occasionaly it may happen. Btw, woodloving shrooms such as Pleurotus, Lentinula edodes etc can grow on cardboard, toilet paper or even on newspaper!!!

The mycelium on cardboard wont hurt anything BUT take care not to introduce contaminants from there... the cardboard was - obviously - not sterilized before so it may contaminate the mycelium that is attached to it. The contams can them move to the whole culture, so if i were u, i would have been VERY careful.

My thoughts - doesnt mean i am right, okee?
