I got Planet Earth in just normal DVD format. It is available in HD DVD format, too, but it's more expensive and I don't have an HD tv set anyway.

A truly awesome series. Just stunning. Best nature show ever done. It looks so good in just DVD format I can't even imagine how it must look in HDTV.

So don't worry about not having HDTV. Just get the regular DVD and enjoy.
