Accutane.
    #7375154 -

I have to pass two pregnancy tests prior to starting, my first was today, and my second in a month...then after that I begin the treatments.

I'm a bit frightened of the health risks that follow though, and I have just under four weeks to make a decision on whether I really want to be on this drug or not. My acne isn't terribly bad at all, but it is cystic, meaning that whenever I do have a breakout it scars up...usually fading within a week or so, but as I get older the more severe it will become.

Input please?

Also, I know it is bad for your liver...is it very dangerous to drink while on this?

Well, I can't tell you much, but I'd avoid drinking while on this if I were you.

Try Adapalene. It is a topical gel that wored for me. It will get down to the cysts just give it time. Not only will it get rid of the actual acne, but it helps fade the scars. It isn't terriblly expensive with insurance. If I were you I would try this before going on Accutane

I took accutane years ago; my dermatologist promised that it would cure my acne for good, and that it would never come back. Needless to say, I still have acne. In my opinion, it's not worth it considering the way that it absolutely ravages your body. Very unhealthy shit.

I took this when I was like 17, I had really bad acne, took it for its full course and then they took me off it.

I noticed a significant difference within a couple weeks and after being on it orally for maybe 6 months like 75% of my acne was gone and now i have very clear skin. It could have been just me growing out of my teeneage years but it seemed to work for me when nothing else did. So if your acne is serious id try it but take those warnings seriously b/c I would sunburn really bad and really quick when i was on that shit.

It worked well for me. I still have some ache now and then, but it isn't much of a problem.

Accutane made me very depressed, though. If you're going to take it, be careful. Definitely don't take any drugs, especially alcohol.

I took this into consideration when talking to my doctor...I was trying to figure out how it would work for some people, and make no difference for others. Do you think you were maybe on it at too young of an age?

My aunt was on it, and said hers has improved drastically, and now she only needs to wash her face twice a day and never has breakouts...and my mom recently started it as well. Not drinking and doing drugs would be a minor inconvenience, but would be worth it in the end, if the results are as promised.

Well, I guess you've already seen my acne, and it's not bad, just persistent...nothing seems to phase it (topical gels, proactiv, various other cleansers, natural oral treatments, diet, etc). I'm starting an antibiotic to clear my face up for the month before my next pregnancy test, and they told me I could just stay on it if it showed significant progress...but then if I get sick or get infections, I will be near completely immune.

Yeah, like ToiletDuk said, definitely do not drink when you're taking this...

They did not do a well enough job of stressing this when I was on it a few years back. I figured I'd be okay drinking if I skipped a day of the accutane, and let's just say it wasn't good.

I've been on accutane twice.

First time, it worked. Dried the shit out of my face, to the point of rubbing my hand down it and flakes of dead/dry skin would fall off.
Other than that, I felt fine. Was on it for 7 months I believe.

My acne came back about 1 year later. Back to the point of me going back onto accutane a second time.
This time it did its magic again, took away the acne while drying the shit out of my face. But after 5 months I was experiencing 7 out of the 10 side effects warning to stop immediately.. so I did.

Feeling of sadness
Crying spells
Depression
yellow eyes

Stuff like the above is what I was feeling. Looking back on it now it was a very strange time. I was mentally different because of the drug... down and depressed.

But I've been off it for awhile and I feel fine now.. but I DO still get those down feelings some days.

Wow, they didn't mention drinking at all to me. They just told me to take Advil over Tylenol because of the effects on your liver. Could you elaborate on your story please? How much did you drink?

Do you still have acne? Did you suffer from depression before Accutane?

i would say NO. get some facial cream masks.

accutane can also ruin ur sexual function

Have you experienced this? I know it obviously would effect natural lubrication, but does it also slow down sex drive?

Do you by chance happen to eat a lot of sweets or lactin-based products?

Honestly, even if what you have may be pustules or cysts, based on what I am reading about accutane, I would start with something a little milder... maybe a simple, gram-positive bacteriostatic agent

Look at it this way.

Acne is a result of a mental process/processes

Accutane will change this.

If you are really in tune you can realize exactly what it is doing to you.

If you have second thoughts while on it I suggest stopping. You can always go back on it later. But you can't undo whats been done. And you can't forget what you learn.

Or don't listen to anything I say because I'm obviously insane.

Up to you.

Milk is 90% of my diet. I'm always rushing off to some place, so I just grab a glass of whole milk instead of eating a meal.

I've decided to post-pone this for a while to attempt some other things. I'm taking Retin A right now, and soon antibiotics...I still have 'teen acne'
as well, so I'm hoping it will just clear with age.

Cut the milk out of your diet. Everytime I get even a hint of acne, it's always the day after I eat some lactose product; ice cream, blended coffee, milk, etc... the more milk I consume, the deeper the acne seems to be too.

Incorporate more spicy foods in your diet, have 1 shot of hard liquor at night; bacteria seriously hate that shit! its old fashioned remedy for curing bacteria-related illness and getting rid of some weaker intestinal parasites. Careful not to overdo it, unless irritation and metabolic acidosis sounds good to you.

I forgot to add, that milk contains a lot of growth hormones which might attribute to your acne. I read an abstract scientific journal a couple years ago, that attributed that when anabolic steroids were applied to certain strands of bacteria, they grew in size (but it did not affect their multiplicity).

Before you try antibiotics, please consider my method (certain antibiotics such as doxycycline have really adverse effects on the liver after 6 months use or so).

Take 1 minced raw garlic clove, with a teaspoon of honey, with a tablespoon of apple cider vinegar once a night. The garlic may give you an upset stomach and diarrhea for the first couple days. Please do not take any more than this dose over a period of time, because you will develop metabolic acidosis.

This is an old fashioned remedy the Greeks used to cure any bacterial infection before penicillin was invented--it was taken up to 3 times a day depending on the severity of infection. The apple cider vinegar will also help with thrush, because it is an antifungal. Do not use distilled or other types of vinegar; the apple cider vinegar contains a natural yeast that will not upset the body's natural flora.

Drink 6-8 glasses of water a day too--really helps with skin moisture. Other foods/spices that are good for the skin are kimchee (the korean spicy red radish) and cayenne peppers.

You must learn to watch what you intake into your body, or it will have detrimental effects. Sometimes it will be internal, other times it will manifest externally. For example, if you are not eating the proper amount of calories a day, and substituting milk as opposed to food, you will develop hypoglycemia.

Good luck and let us know your progress after 3 weeks.

Accutane isn't for people with underlying mental problems, liver problems, or basically anyone not in perfect health. The side effects can be very severe and may include depression, outbursts of anger, mood swings, pain, liver damage, and miscarriage or birth defects.

I don't know about you guys, but I don't want to put anything in my body that is capable of maiming an unborn child. Especially if it's not necessary to save my life or something. Accutane should be a last resort after everything else has failed.

i took acutane. i suppose it worked then I got off of it. still had breakouts but not nearly as bad as when I went on accutane.

idk, acne doesn't happen to me anymore. I could not wash my fash for a week and be fine. Not saying I don't wash my face but I'd rather retain my oils by just rinsing with water and once a day or every other day I'll use a facial cleanser to clean up a lil more.

When I don't go out in the sun, I feel like I break out more. Studying for exams, stress, staying inside.... usually when I break out the most and I guess that's a no brainer as to where they came from.

I'm not a dermatolagist though, so I don't know.

Don't take accutane. I took it in high school fro 5 months. It made my hands and feet pool with blood very easily. The pooling still happens and looks weird when I'm resting my arms to my side or standing barefoot

hey sorry it's taken me so long to respond...

Yeah, I had been taking accutane for a while and knew I would be drinking the next night because my friend was having a party (i don't drink at all anymore). I believe I stopped taking the accutane the day before the party, and also the day of. I ended up drinking 6 beers (not a lot for me... usually where I started to feel mildly intoxicated) but I started feeling incredibly messed up. I ended up spending the whole night in front of the toilet, tripping my mind out (not in a good way). I could hear my friends in the other room and I believed that I was one of my friend's right arm. I don't know how to explain it other than that. I imagined him moving it around, and it felt like I was moving with it. It was a horrible night, and I'm sure it was because of the accutane.
