Coffee Maker?
    #7370177 -

I'm going to visit some friends that live in a dorm without a stove. We want to make some mushroom tea and all they have is a drip coffee machine. Will this be effective?

With my method in my signature, i can get a heavy trip off 1.5g. I Brew them in a ceramic tea pot on the counter for half an hour, and drink it when it cools.

Is a drip coffe maker too hot? does any one know the temperature of the average coffee maker? it seems like it would be a relatively low temperature, i dont think it even boils in there.

Here's my plan. 12 cups of water for a half ounce of shrooms. The average plastic cup will easily hold 4 -6 cups. I was thinking i could put the tea mix layer on top of the mushrooms in the filter, so it doesnt soak of any actives from the shroom layer.

Help!!!

If you grind them ahead of time, you could mix them into orange juice. Like you say, the coffee maker seems like it should work- but you don't want to ruin your only chance.

if i wanted to eat the actual fruit, i would just make chocolates. I want to make tea for a reason. Thanks for the advice though.

Anyone with experience?

Walgreen's near me has little electric hotplates for $10. You could get one of those to make tea on. The dorm likely has a rule against hotplates- but they probably have a rule against mushrooms too...

well boiling water (the gasses released and the expansion of the water) is what forces the water into the grounds in all coffee makers I'm familiar with (the water is forced up through the little tube).

So I'd imagine the water would be almost 100 C. Anyways, I've never made tea and have no idea what the effect of the heat would be on the actives- but the structure of psilocin looks kinda iffy for hot water. Nonetheless I'd be surprised if a brief simmer would reduce the actives too much, but you should listen to someone who's actually done it, not me.

Anyways, you could always use tea bags with a water/vodka mix- should work fine with lukewarm temps.

I have used this method once. But I would strongly suggest you grind them up before brewing. A coffee pot should not be too hot. I have used boiling water for a short period of time 5-10 mins to prepare my tea. Anyways you can get away with this just depends on how fast your coffee maker is. If you have a slow brew I may consider doing half a pot at a time. You have to allow enough soaking time and thats why I suggest grinding them up into a powder.

i meant put the shrooms in the filter area like coffe beans, not just dip them in the hot water. jesus.

Most people use ground coffee, not beans.

You're being kinda crabby about this. Clearly, nobody has tried it. Nobody can think of a reason why it won't work- but that's not a guarantee it will work. So try it and tell us. Or don't try it. Or find a microwave when you get there, and boil water that way. Or whatever works for you.

Personally, I'd have a backup plan. You mentioned chocolates- that's a good one.

i might go with chocolates, or make them ahead of time. I found one of those 1 gallon coleman water coolers in my closet. So il make a batch in that and with a little luck it wont taste stale. And it will look pretty legit if i get pulled over. what cop is going to ask for a sample of tea?
