Anyone ever read through the DEA's microgram?

There's lost of interesting stuff in there. For instance in Mendocino County, California in September of 03 someone got busted with 40 year old synthetic psilocybin. "The psilocybin tablets were in what appeared to be the original packaging (glass bottle with metal screw on lid, labeled: "Sandoz Pharmaceuticals, 50 tablets, Psilocybin, each tablet contains 10 mg)".

They have lots of pictures of MDMA labs, PCP labs, meth labs etc... And they always analyze the ecstasy pills they find with a GC/MS and let you know what was in the pills.

Lost of interesting stuff.

^^ What's the law regarding dried poppy pods.. because they sell them on ebay, for decorative purposes.

I would think the DEA or state would have a hard time prosecuting someone for possession of dried poppy pods.

Federal drug agents have arrested a California man for allegedly selling opium poppy pods on eBay. Krsna Lev-Twombly, 30, was arrested at his home by Drug Enforcement Administration agents, who say they bought hundreds of pods from him last year.

SAN FRANCISCO -- Federal drug agents have arrested a Sacramento man for allegedly selling opium poppy pods on eBay, where he described the morphine-laden pods and seeds as a decoration.

Krsna Lev-Twombly, 30, was arrested at his home Thursday by Drug Enforcement Administration agents, who say they bought hundreds of the illegal pods from him last year.

Lev-Twombly appeared in a federal court in Sacramento and was released on a $50,000 property bond, the U.S. Attorney's office announced Friday. Lev-Twombly is scheduled to appear in a San Jose federal courtroom Feb. 6.

Lev-Twombly declined to comment on the case when reached at his home by The Associated Press.

Prosecutors allege that Lev-Twombly advertised and sold the dried Papaver Somniferum poppy pods on eBay last year.

Undercover DEA agents bought pods from Lev-Twombly twice, each time receiving a package of poppies, complete with a receipt, the U.S. Attorney's Office said. Each pod is about the size of a golf ball, and is attached to a two-foot-high stalk.

Richard Meyer, a spokesman for the DEA, said only three of 300 species of poppy are illegal, but Lev-Twombly was selling one of the prohibited kinds.

A San Francisco forensic scientist later confirmed that the pods contained opium poppy seeds, which in turn contained Morphine, prosecutors said.

The chemist indicated that the pods were shipped ready to be "steeped and ingested as a controlled substance with a psychoactive effect," according to the criminal complaint.

Kevin Pursglove, a spokesman for eBay, said the auction Web site remains vigilant in working with authorities to prevent the sales of such items online.

"We check the site frequently for any illegal or illicit items and we remove them as fast as we find them," Pursglove said.

In the early days of eBay, some people tried to sell marijuana on the service before they were quickly shut down, Pursglove said.

Trying to deal drugs online through eBay "might be one of the dumbest things you can do," Pursglove added. "Everything is traceable."

A search for opium poppy seeds on eBay's site Friday revealed sellers hawking "spectacular amazing giant opium poppy seed" and 150 "opium poppy seeds."


They can bust you, though they rarely do it.

The DEA Western Laboratory (San Francisco, California) recently received a submission of three standard design, plastic, 12 milliliter syringes containing a clear liquid with very small black specks suspended in the solution, suspected to be aqueous suspensions of psilocybin mushroom spores. The exhibits were seized by the Postal Inspector in Great Falls, Montana. Each syringe had a piece of colored tape wrapped around it; one red, one white, and one blue. Each tape had a different alphanumeric code written on it, the meaning of which was not intuitively obvious. For prosecution purposes (attempt to manufacture psilocybin and/or psilocin, controlled substances), it was necessary to show both that the spores were viable (would grow mushrooms), and that the mushrooms grown from the spores contained psilocybin and/or psilocin.
Transfer of the mycelium to a grow chamber resulted in mushroom growth, and analysis of the dried mushrooms confirmed psilocin

Visual examination of a drop of the liquid at 750x magnification revealed thousands of brownish colored, semi-transparent, oval shaped spores. Each solution was used to inoculate four different growth media: Potato, dextrose, yeast agar (PDY), dog food agar (DFA), malt extract agar (MEA), and brown rice powder and vermiculite. The basic procedures followed those provided in: Gross ST. Detecting psychoactive drugs in the developmental stages of mushrooms. Journal of Forensic Sciences 2000;45(3):527. [Further details not provided in accordance with Bulletin policy.] Mycelium growth was obtained with two of the syringes; analysis of samples of the mycelium by GC/MS and GC/IRD confirmed psilocin (see: Casale JF. An aqueous-organic extraction method for the isolation and identification of psilocin from hallucinogenic mushrooms. Journal of Forensic Sciences 1985;30(1):247). Transfer of the mycelium to a grow chamber resulted in mushroom growth (see Photo 5), and analysis of the dried mushrooms confirmed psilocin. This was the first submission of this type to the Western Laboratory.

how can they prove you intended to cultivate them.. the spores are for research use, thats what id say.

or you could just order your syringes from xxxxxxx.com and when they attempt to cultivate the mushrooms they would just get contamination.

The packages were seized by Immigration and Customs Enforcement personnel at the Blaine, Washington POE, from inside the doors of a tractor-trailer arriving from Canada (further details not provided). Each package consisted of a large clear zip lock bag with clear tape around it, a FoodSaver bag, enclosing two smaller clear plastic baggies each containing the crystalline material (total net mass 49.68 kilograms). Screening by color testing (Chen’s test), however, indicated that the material was not ephedrine. Further analysis by FT-IR and GC indicated 89 percent ketamine hydrochloride. This is the largest ketamine exhibit ever submitted to the Western Laboratory. "

"STONERS 'TAINTED TRUFFLE' " CANDY BARS SEIZED IN BECKHAM COUNTY, OKLAHOMA

The Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigations Central Drug Lab (Oklahoma City, Oklahoma) recently received an unusual case that included exhibits of marijuana, methamphetamine, and what appeared at first glance to be an imitation “Snickers” brand candy bar with a wrapper labelled “STONERS Tainted Truffles” (see Photo 2). The wrapper labelling also included a tiny marijuana leaf-based logo, and a consumer warning “For Medicinal Use Only”. The exhibits had been mailed to Oklahoma from southern California (sending location not further specified), and were seized by a Drug Task Force officer in Beckham County, Oklahoma (a rural area in the western part of the state), in cooperation with the U.S. Postal Service. At the time of submission, it was unknown if the candy bar actually contained any controlled substances. The bar was similar in appearance, size, and apparent makeup to a regular Snickers candy bar (see Photo 3; dimensions 10 x 2.5 x 2.0 centimeters, total net mass 62.9 grams). Analysis by GC and GC/MS confirmed tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) (quantitation not performed). This was the first submission of this type of exhibit to the laboratory.

I like to skim through the micrograms from time to time just to see all the funny ways people think of to try and smuggle drugs across the border.

I think I remember one case where they impregnated couch cushions with heroin. I guess the idea was that if you just soak the cushions in heroin, there's no hidden compartment inside for the feds to find and they might not notice the smack at all. Of course... they did notice.
