They most certainly are.

My GF and I were there last summer, and looking to have a mild "museum dose" type experience.  We were recent college grads, both art history minors, and excited to see Van Gogh's swirling works with our eyes enhanced by a little psilocybin. 

Sadly I can't remember the name of my favorite smartshop... it has a big glass display in the window with some indian artifacts, some big old peyote buttons, and san pedro cacti.  They've got an excellent selection of psychedelic books inside too--alex gray art books, aldous huxeley, LSD: My Problem Child, etc.  You could spend hours in this place if you're interested in psychedelic history/lore. 

Anyway... I felt a little awkward approaching someone in a fine retail establishment and asking to buy something I'm used to getting on the black market (from a hairy wook in a parking lot, usually)

"um... I'd like to buy some mushrooms."
"Wonderful, have you tripped before?"
"Yes, many times, always with dried mushrooms, though, never fresh."
"Fresh and dried are very similar.  What sort of a trip are you looking for?"

Basically the guy great, full of information, he made us feel like he really cared about our trip and wanted us to leave with the right variety at the right dose.

We ended up choosing the "weakest" variety, mexicans, and bought just one box containing 35 grams, equivalent to an eighth of dried. 

The next day we split the box, eating one mushroom at a time, chewing thoroughly.  We weren't even done with the mushrooms before I started to trip!  Usually it takes me a good hour to get going, these once came on fast as hell.  I knew it was starting when I could FEEL my jaw working.  I thought "Whoa, I am a skeleton covered with nerves and muscles to move it around.  But fundamentally I am a skeleton.  And my jaw is my favorite bone."  Then I reflected on that thought train and realized with a laugh that the psilocybin was working its magic 

We came up much further than we expected.  My girlfriend broke down and had this breakthrough.  Normally shy, she started laughing like a deamon and simultaneously burst into tears.  Here we are, plopped down right on the path in the museumplein, a highly populated area adjacent to all these civic buildings and museums, and here is my girlfriend carrying on LOUD and LOONY.  She calmed down after a couple of minutes, but after that episode we knew this wasn't going to be a half-eighth trip like we were expecting.

What followed... melting and swirling patterns in the grass, ultra fine long range vision, and most notably, we got these amazing philosophical raps that lasted hours.  We blew off the Van Gogh museum and just wandered through vondelpark having a rabid conversation about time, cycles, reality, free will, the works.  It was by far my favorite and most useful and beneficial trip. 

We were looking at these intricate handmade swiss watches, realizing the cyclic nature of existance--that in each moment are contained all the moments, that events are all fractal metaphors of other events.  For example, a day is like a year--january is night time, february is 4:30am, just pre-dawn, springtime is morning, summer is high noon, fall is afternoon into evening.  We were thinking together, finishing eachother's sentences, as if the thoughts were coming from somewhere else.  Out of this exchange came the idea "What will happen has already happen and DOES always happen, so worry is preposterous."  At home, it takes me a MUCH higher dosage to get those spiraling philosophies and telepathy.

We were tripping as if we'd eaten 2.5-3 grams of the shrooms we get at home, which are grown by a conscientious grower who harvest them small to maximize potency and all that jazz. 

So, yea, I'm just affirming what AroundTheSun said, they are friggin potent, and awesome.
