Good question...I have been wondering about the DOMESTICATION of a wild cubensis and what happens to it over the years..I think its something to pay attention to...Hey camel how are you picky with strains??? Do you do agar plate work or have a microscope or something???? What kind of methods do you employ to monitor the condition of a strain???

Well, I have slants of strains that were said to be second genereation of a couple strains that were sent to me a while back. I am continuing to put those onto new petris to bring back that particular generation...peace camel

I retain all of the original prints and return to them about once a year. I don't use the prints that I generate to generate new prints. I use the original (to me) source material to make agar cultures that will last a year or so. This is the best method I could come up with for retaining the highest amount of genetic diversity in any one strain.

I'm not sure about that one Camel. I would like to think they keep master prints/cultures of the strains they sell. It seems not though. I have seen many pics of Eq's that vary greatly in appearance, also my friend grew some Equadors from PF that didn't come close to matching the potency of the Eq's I grew from Ryche. I know this could very well be from growing conditions or substrate used, but the PF Equador produced a whole different trip than Ryches. Lets hear from the spore suppliers. The Lizard,

I agree lizard, but workman seemed to have a pretty good solution to keeping the strain as close to the original as possible. It certainly would be a pain in the ass for the provider though to constantly make more petris of a single clone... But what are ya gonna do...peace camel

I take fresh prints from the wild each year of Psilocybe cyanescens. As for the various cubs, I have know idea what generation the orignals are so all I can do is limit myself to taking prints of only the healthiest shrooms.------------------ Visit the Captains Spore page at: http://www.geocities.com/Yosemite/Meadows/4448/spores.htm
