1) You cannot buy pre-colonized (with spawn already growing on them) over the internet because the mycelium (spawn) contains the psychoative ingredient in it, and is therefore illegal.

2) "substrate" is any material used to grow something on (in this case mushrooms). The spawn feeds off the nutrients in the substrate and forms the mushrooms.

It's a little more involved than all that. You should make your rice cakes. It seems that people around here use either: the PF Tek, or the MMGG Tek, or Shroom Wizard Tek or grow using the bulk tray method. Go to the top right of the screen and hit search and look for these methods.

As far as spores go, everyone has their favorite. I deal with Rych at The Hawk's Eye...he will set you up quickly and answer your question via email if you like. Here's his link...

The only real secret to cultivation that I know of is to arm yourself with information and go for it. But if you don't research and study...you will be relying on luck, which will turn into a contamination nightmare. Good Luck.
