Michael vick's dog fighting ring, 66 dogs to be euthanized-agree?

Looks like the charge here is class 6 felony. Vick owned a house in surry which he recently sold at half market value. His cousin was living there. There were 66 dogs, apparently dog fighting equipment/rings and dog fights going on there.

What do you think should happen to these dogs? Euthanize because of their owners, or offer for adoption? I see the complications with adoption being that other dog fighters would pay a fair amount of money to own a genuine M.Vick dog. Would you try to rehabilitate an aggressive pit bull/dog?

How many / what types of companion animals do you care for?
i look after a 6 mo brindle male blue nose pit unneutered. mother was mix pit/something. also a year+ female spayed black lab/pit from pound. We have a cool male neutered grey cat, and did have 2 others but the racoons killed them, and I will have my revenge in time. going to be wearing a coonskin cap this winter. my folks have a shihpoo-little 5lb dog they payed like 750+ for, haha.. hes alright, they got him cause my childhood english springer spaniel was hit by a car (i didnt take good care of him cause i didna know better, but i loved him. he was a goiod dog, i drove him to the clinic in shock after he waddled back home from being hit, he yelped in the car one last time tried to get out and died. fuck. i buried him on his dog bed dwn by the pt) sigh. ,, and like i said they got this shihpoo its 6lbs. fucker bit my toe, he still tries to hump and show dominance too, but hes decently trained. cant really let him outside we;ve got osprey hawks with claws bigger than his head.

It's a shame... I wonder if those dogs could ever be pet-like after being groomed as fighters.  I think Mike Vick should have to fight them all. :lol: 

We'd get to see some of those awesome moves of his... for a minute or two :smirk:

Pits are funny creatures. They can be so passive for years on end, then all of a sudden a basic genetic instinct will bring out their aggression.

I think if one is trained to kill, they can't return to pet status.

I had to go with a buddy once to have his put down because it attacked this lady in his neighborhood, and she was willing to drop charges in exchange for his death. It was so sad, because the dog was so damn sweet up until then. Something in it changed though. It was like it became a completely different dog.

My rescue group has had a number of pit bulls turned in that were formerly used in fights.  As long as they are not around other dogs, cats or small creatures, they make fine pets, as they are not typically aggressive towards humans in ANY way.  Obviously, if they are aggressive towards people, there is no choice but to euthanize them :frown:

I still believe some of the dogs could be saved. They just need TIME TIME TIME. Most people do not have the time that it would take to rehab these dogs.

I think Vick should use his own money to pay professionals to rehab these animals.....

That's true - almost 100% of the animals SEIZED during investigations are euthanized.  However, if a dog is found wandering on the side of the road, or is dropped at the shelter covered in battle scars, and was clearly a fighting dog - the authorities are never involved, and are not in a position to make that call. 

Some fighting dogs will only attack a certain breed, or breeds - the one that they were trained to attack, or the ones that they were baited with.  They are not always vicious towards all other dogs, though some are.  Typically, we have made people signed a statement acknowledging that the dog they are adopting cannot be around other animals, and that they will take full responsibility for making sure that happens.

If Vick was as deeply involved as it seems, that's fucked up.

I read this story the other day on the topic, and thought this was fucked up, too.

ive heard dogs trained for fighting are agressive pretty much for life -
pretty sure they will be euthanised.

my dog wants to fight and kill any other male dog that comes near him. i did not train or encourage him to do this and i have had him since he was 5 weeks old. pit bulls are naturally aggressive animals and some more so than others. once they have been exposed to a life of fighting and cruel treatment by people like vick i really dont think there is much hope for rehabilitation.
more and more stories like this hit the media and is the reason for breed-specific laws banning pit bulls in parts of america.

these dogs have been trained to kill and that is all they know and sadly should all be put down. oh im sure there could be exceptions but the risk of attack on human or defenseless pets is just too great. michael vicks is a nasty STD-infested who should be responsible for a majority of the crime.

He has no finesse and cannot throw a decent pass down the middle of the field. He has no self-control and that's why he always throws these 200 mph fastballs that no one can catch. The Falcons should have long since traded his sorry ass and built up a decent line for Matt Schaub. Instead all they do is pander to the fans who'll trade an exciting game two shitty losses pattern for consistency. In summary, fuck the dogs and Vick. What an asshole.

Pit Bulls, before the wrong people started breeding them for the wrong reasons, had impeccable reputations. They were known as the "nanny dogs" because of their love for children, and protective nature for their families. You're certainly entitled to your opinion, but I can't see justifying killing a bunch of innocent pit bulls who are loving family pets because some asshole drug dealers beat them, neglect them, and treat them like property instead of pets.

That being said, more and more evidence points to the fact that Vick was very, very much involved in this. Pet store owners in the area said that he came in regularly purchasing things for the dogs in that house. I think he's a piece of shit for doing this, and I hope that they actually prosecute him.
