ORPG Development - free/piratable software, time consumption Q's
    #6926322 -

I want to make a game subtly based on alignment, apocalyptic viewpoints, paganism, where every choice you make affects the course of the game, including how npcs respond to you, quests available, etc, occuring in present day, land mass the exact size of the earth. You follow the negative path, you end up a ceo for monsanto, you follow some compassionate path you end up .. whatever.. gods would include most mythological archetypes, including lucifer/pan/loki, odin/zeus demetre, etc etc etc

mythology the apocalypse and present day reality rolled into a blunt.
quests will recquire you if youare aligned positive to um go out and plant an herb seed in the walmart garden center
if you are evilly aligned it will be to drink nothing but diet coke, eat red meat and watch tv for 24 hours with a diaper on.

I need help developing this. Anyone want to discuss? The idea is free for use, though I would like to consult AND produce/invest in it, trademarking whatever name we so chose.

If anyone is interested, please discuss here, or pm me.
hail bacchus!

There was a guy from Alabama who was arrested in Houston this morning for microwaving his 2 month old daughter. Hearing about the burns she suffered made me cringe but that was nothing compared to coming in here and reading about your diet Coke, red meat and TV. I feel evil just typing the names, much less partaking of them.

Why does this belong in this forum?

technology-video game development.

I didnt say one of the quests wouldnt be microwaving babies, only that one example of them would be a 24 hour fag fest with tv coke and a diaper. From your sarcasm I'd bet this is a regularly occuring event for you, shit stain.

Work on your design more. A lot more. And quit ripping off Lionhead.

Flaming now? I presume you'd consider this "positively aligned"?

What are you expecting, that you'll come in here, type up a few sentences about some idea you had (that apparently you've "borrowed" heavily from) and expect people to just jump up and run with the enormously complicated task of designing and programming your game? Then bring you along after all of the hard work you've apparently not done?

Yeah, what he said.

The game design, such that it is, is not very well developed yet and what IS there is almost completely rip off from other games.

Tom Sloper's Game Design FAQs is a great resource.
Quote:
So you want to get your idea made into a working electronic game.
There are two ways for you to follow up on this dream.

1. DIY -- Do It Yourself. Execute the idea into a game yourself, training yourself along the way as a game designer and/or programmer and/or artist, etc.

2. DIFTI -- Do It From The Inside. (You're "outside" the game biz at the moment.) Write your idea into a formal game design document, training yourself along the way as a game designer. Write more design documents too. Then, with those designs in hand, go to a game company (a developer or publisher) and take a job -- ANY job. The designs will help you get your foot in the door, but it's unlikely that anybody will want to make your idea into a game or hire you as an apprentice game designer. The designs may never get made, but now you're in the biz -- and you can learn & grow within it, and eventually make other original designs if you're good.

- Both of those paths (#1 and 2 above) require the same first step: writing a formal game design document. You have to do it. All by yourself. Do you want to be a game designer? Or are you just a person with one idea that'll never go anywhere because you can't be bothered to spend the effort? If the latter, you can just stop reading right now. If the former, keep on reading.

The primary goals of a game design are to (1) excite and (2) inform the reader.

First paragraph must excite the reader and make the reader want to read more of the first page.

The first page must be interesting, concise, and informative, and must make the reader want to read the remaining pages.

There's not even one page of design here.

delta9: I've never heard of Lionhead. If someone is doing this exactly as I thought it up, I'll be content. your second post was more helpful

Hagbard: Continue your assumptious course into wreckless hypocritical drollness.. I was merely seeking some positive feedback/critique. yawn, peace
