I just got an account at oink and I am having a really hard time keeping my ratio up, or even getting any ratio at all. I've downloaded like 4 things and there are just too many seeders for me to get any of the leechers' bandwidth. Any suggestions on how I can get it up without uploading anything? I would upload, but I don't have anything that isn't already there.

download parts of popular programs like rosetta stone or microsoft windows/office. I dunno, download like 1/2 a gig at least of the first part of the file and just let it seed. Then once your ratio is up start downloading some tunes and let them seed, soon enough you'll have a good ratio. I went from a .02 to .8 in a couple of days and now i sit around .6 with no worries.

I never down FLAC. MP3 at 256 is indistinguishable, especially if you're not listening in a sound damped studio with reference equipment. :shrug:

I have actually weaned off of mp3 completely, and so it's funny that you should say what you just said just now. I made the clean break, I'm 100% lossless now. Life's too short for mp3.

I borrowed CD's from my GF and friends and ripped to flac, alternatively just download something that is popular for a while (ie a popular program or cd not a popcd that no one will want after 3months or the latest crack of XP that will become useless as soon as the next update comes out) let it seed 24/7 and forget you have an account for a while.

I bet if I were to play you some shit from my computer you wouldn't be able to tell me if it was FLAC or not half the time. People think they can hear the difference because they know there is one, and people think they are more elite if they have FLAC files, but I don't bother. Can't use FLAC on iTunes.

Just because I know there's a difference doesn't mean I can hear it. I don't lie to myself and say "Well FLAC is lossless, so it MUST sound better.Oh, I can hear it!" I can't notice the difference, so I don't download FLAC. Like I said, I like iTunes, and iTunes does not support lossless files.

Oh, and no, music listening is not all about sound quality. If that was the case no one would ever buy live albums. And I'm willing to bet you have some live albums of your own.

You're basically saying that 97 cents is as good as a dollar because you can't tell that somebody stole 3 cents.

I disagree.

Decompress your flacs to wav and they work fine in Itunes. I use Itunes too, and my entire Ipod is lossless now. I fucking love it, and I can most definately tell the difference. It's as clear as a bell.

Well it's not like you were enlightening me to some amazing new concept. I have fucking iPod headphones (pieces of shit), even with better headphones I can't tell the difference, so to me it seems like a ridiculous complaint.

Not to mention you should be buying your albums anyway. You're the one who's helping to diminish music.
