A great TOOL mix cd (post for TOOL fans and casual listeners) * 1

I'm a TOOL fan and I love all the albums, and I decided to make a TOOL mix cd for both the casual and hardcore tool fan.  I plan to blast this cd in the summer at parties so I had to keep in my several things:

The songs have to:

1) - reflect the progression of TOOL musically from the first to the newest album, hence each studio Tool album is sampled in chronological order (except Salival which is not offically a full studio recording but does have some wicked tracks, but I found none of the songs 'fit' the way I wanted them to flow on this mix)
2) -flow like an album which takes the user on a musical ride, and can be listened to multiple times without getting boring, thus, the Intermission (from Aenima) is included to separate pre-Lateralus style of TOOL from the older classic stuff. Also, Intermission lightens up the mood a little cause it sounds so cheesy yet catchy. I was thining of putting in the skit of Harry Manback but that broke up the flow of cd.

This is not a TOOL greatest hits album cause I obviously missed singles like Sober and Aenima among others... I just think these particular songs go well together and show a nice progression of the band. Anyway, it took me a few listens before I was happy with this mix and I think it rocks. Here is the list, maybe if u dig it you can arrange your playlist and give it a listen.

5. Forty Six and 2
6. Intermission
7. Schism
8. Lateralus
9. Disposition
10. Vicarious

nice selection. i have tried to do this on several occassions before but i have never quite found that perfect mix(maybe because i love every TOOL song). what about intolerance? rossetta stoned? i would need like a 2 hour cd to put my favorite tracks in it.

i have not heard 'tool' many times nor could pick their music out of a medley, but have heard great things.

hahah, yea I know but I already had 3 other tracks from Aenima so then you might as well just listen to the whole album :wink:. What I basically did was add every single TOOL song to my Winamp play list, and I'd listen to the whole thing through and just delete songs which I don't think would make it to the final cut. After repeated listenings I narrowed it down to 20 songs and then it got super hard which songs I should delete. I found this method works pretty good for me when making mixes.

i took the mix and changed it up a little:
1. Hush
2. Prison Sex
3. Stinkfist
4. H
5. Forty Six and 2
6. Intermission
7. Parabola
8. Lateralus
9. Schism
10. Disposition
11. Vicarious
12. Right In Two
total time: 69 minutes.

im not a fan of the pot and intermission to parabola is sweet.
still gonna tweak it a little more.

Some key points to this mix:

A) Opiate: decided to switch it up since everything so far had Hush as the first one. And Opiate really captures their early style very well.
:cool:Stinkfist into Pushit, FUCKING AMAZING.
C) very cool/chaotic transition between Pushit/Ions/Third Eye
D) With the amount of chaos that is Third Eye, when lateralus chimes in on that first guitar note, it sounds like a choir of angels singing, and is a nice queue in for the style of Lateralus.
E) Reflection and Triad together are some of my most favorite musical moments, i couldn't NOT put them in  :smile: it was really hard not putting Disposition in too, but I was going to keep it to the 12 track listing
F) the long silence after triad is almost deafening it seems, and then  the instantaneous beauty of the interplay between the bass and guitar of Vicarious comes out of nowhere, completely unexpected, pretty cool, moment.
G) Lost Keys/Rosetta Stoned, imo is just pure genius and ends with a bang, and I couldn't envision a better song to end it all with than a song that exemplifies both the intensity of tool but also their dark humor  :wink:  :thumbup:

i dont think its a 12 track thing but a time limit thing. when i made your playlist it came out to 99 minutes and thats not gonna fit onto a cd.
