Anyone work in a Print shop?
    #6680812 -

My mom started a non-profit corp for wilflife rehab (to get them off teh droogs =P ) and Ive been helping out for like 8 years or so. We print these news letters a few times a year to basically try to get donations from the community but currently its costing an assload of cash. Its basically just a size A3 (17" wide x 11" high) double sided printed paper with a double sided 8.5 x11 in the middle, and then folded together. So in total, 6 sides printed using 2 sheets of paper. Paper is a yellowish color too, not just plain ol white copy paper. Currently we are paying 40 cents per news letter + 39 cents postage which is quite pricey after sending out 350 copies. I was hoping some shroomite has the hookup for printing and folding, possibly even printing postage. Any donation of resources would of course be tax deductable if you happen to own the printing facility. If you can possibly help us out, please let me know. I can make the whole news letter using MS Publisher and would just need it printed and possibly folded if you have an automated system. Printing postage would definitely rock as well as the ability to print customized copies that contain the recipients address (using a database/spreadsheet). I just spent like 3 hours today folding, sticking on stamps, sticking on address labels, and sealing the sides of the news letters with stickers. not fun.

anyways, any help/cost quotes would be apreciated.

I work in a print shop, and we have the capability to take your emailed digital files and send them to either a high-speed color copier, or to any of our B/W copiers and print. We do our own folding/bindery work, but do not customize...we have a mailing service that does that for us cheaper than we can. You should look into the cost of a bulk-mailing permit for your newsletter. I assume your newsletter is black ink on yellow stock...are there photos, lots of halftones? If not, a Risograph-printed version should cost you half that 40 cent cost. Is the newsletter (once collated) folded to 8.5 by 5.5, or is it trifolded? Give me a little more detail and I can check into cost of printing/folding/collating/mailing.

Yes there are several pictures of rehab animals in the news letters. And yes the final folded size is 8.5 wide by 5.5 high. see attached pics for clearer view. dashed lines denote folds.

Strange...I'm surprised the Post Office doesn't complain about the positioning of the fold...fold should be at the bottom of the mailing side to allow it to pass through automatic sorting machine. Open "tabbed" edge should be at the top...anyway...let me check into the pricing from our shop. BTW, any idea of the weight and color of the paper? Is it a light stock (20#) or heavier (60 or 70#)...that makes a few cents difference in the price. I'll assume a quantity of 350, printed from your file on 60# color stock, folded, collated and tabbed.
