I got my Worm Castings at Worms Way Garden store. I bet someone at a nursury could point you in the right direction. A 30 1b bag cost me $15.

i have been always interesting in using wormcasting as substrate.... it seems to me that is a super substrate for pan trops and cyans...
does anybody try it???
little of this substrate accidentally was contaminated from pan trop mycelium and it seems that it loves it!!!!

I'm interested in your results as well.
Sorry I can offer no experience, but I could give a little guesswork for what it's worth. Remember, it may not be worth much more than you paid for it(and in fact if your shelling out the yen for high-speed internet, it could be worth considerably less).

I probably wouldn't case before colonization, pans don't fight contams very well.

I think the jars with mostly worm castings BRF and verm will be fine.

I think they will fruit uncased, although poorly due to the pans inherent low yields. The verm is what allows cakes to fruit, not the BRF. The verm is kinda like a casing in that it provides a very small microclimate on the surface of the cakes for primordia to form in.

Now straight worm castings, I'm not even gonna guess on as I've never used it.

I do think this would be more appropriate in Advanced, perhaps one of the immortal moderators will see this and see fit to move it, perhaps not.
Good luck, and keep reports coming. Yes, even if you fail miserably, we need to know. (I doubt you'll fail though) :smile:

Hmm...fuck...i just realized that its winter here in Sweden and that most of those shops have closed down for the winter... :frown:

In my dream....My half pint worm casting Pan Trop cakes are pinning and fruiting. so far the fruits look kinda small but they look like they are on there way. I am also getting a lot more pins also. by the way I am using the S.O.S method for these babies just in case there was a mold threat.
One more thing...I am using shroom God's cool mist set up, the only thing that bothers me about the cool mist is that it seems to dry out the casings. but every thing seems to be going good so far...

Well a worm casting is organic matter decomposed by worms. It's also called "worm shit". Although this great stuff smells like fresh soil which it basically is and it's full of nutrients.

In my dream...Even though the casings seems dry to the touch the S.O.S style casings seem to be getting moisture because They just keep on fruiting and fruiting. The overall dry yeild is not very much but I am thrilled and very thankfull that I have the opportunity to try these being that they are a little harder to grow. I am also very impressed so far with the worm castings (worm shit).

hi... my wormcasting experiment seems to be not very well i think i put very much wormcasting in the mix and the substrate is to packet...
please anyone have a recipe to mix the wormcasting in the correct proportions?????

Ok, here is my earthworm casting experience...

I am planning on doing a 50/50+ casing here in a couple weeks. So i went to hunt down some crushed oyster shells. Well being the time of the year it is nobody has anything in the way of 'gardening', so I ended up at a specialty store. They specialize in hydroponics but also have supplies for organics. Anyway, I asked about crushed oyster shells, and she said the only product they had that had that in it were for killing off bugs and pests, and asked why i wanted the oyster shell.

So I explained I planned on using a verm/peat moss mixture for my media and wanted something to 'strengthen' it up and give it some mass. So she recommended the earthworm castings which are really cheap. She said a lot of people our using those.

So I'm gonna make a casing with 45% peat moss, 45% verm, and 10% earthworm castings.

I'll tell/post pics of the results.
