New guitar
    #6609529 -

I have only been playing for maybe 6 months. I was learning on this real shitty Rogue accoustic that a friend had given me. Well, I went to visit this same friend last night and he handed me an Alvarez AD-60sc electric/accoustic. It's not a super nice guitar, but way better than the Rogue I was using. Sounds way better and is much easier to play. (the Rogue had such high tension it was kinda a bitch to play for long periods of time. This Alvarez is so much nicer...and my friend just gave it to me...it's like a $400-$500 guitar! Anyways, I'm super happy, my friends rock!

sweet deal, man! my brother has the exact same electro-acoustic, and he left it here, pretty much forever ...

only problem is I don't know how to restring an acoustic! i should learn how, come to think of it ... I mean, the guitar will sit there forever otherwise, and that's just sad. all guitars deserve to be played ...

It's not hard to string an accoustic. Google can tell ya. Get some Elixers, expensive, but worth it IMO.

HB, it's just I described restringing an electric, except the bridge end is a little different.

Just take out the bridge pegs with some kind of tool (most string winders have a little notch in them for this purpose), stick the end with the nub in the hole, replace the peg, and then its the same as with an electric.

in that case, I'll go pick up some Elixirs later tonight or tomorrow, and I'll give it a whirl ...

Hey what do you think of Elixirs? I've never tried them.

I can't say, I haven't tried enough acoustic strings to know what I like or don't like about them, but I'll give the Elixirs a go based on the good words I've heard for them.

overly expensive for no apparent reason in my opinion, of course they are great string, but i'd rather have 2 or 3 packs of more mediocre ones.

its not the strings that play the guitar, it's your damn fingers!!

Yeah guys, tone and longevity is bullshit.

Elixers are the best feeling and sounding strings I've found. And if you order them online, they're not that bad.

That's just me though.

exactly. They say that elixers are better cause they last longer because they dont get dirty (coated). I, however, dont change strings because theyre dirty. I change my strings because theyre all stretched out and lose their activity.

3 packs of cheaper strings will sound better than 1 pack of elixers over the same time for the same price.

How much do you pay for Elixirs? At some shops, I've seen them as high as $28, which is rediculous. I get mine at a smaller bluegrass shop for $13, and they last forever while maintaining a sufficient level of tone and feel.
