Getting Tickets from Scalpers

Does anyone else do this on a regular basis?

I almost never buy tickets beforehand, unless I think a game is going to be sold out or I want tickets in a certain section. To me, it seems stupid to pay full price when anyone with half a brain can get into the park at a discount if you play your cards right.

I always show up a little late, but not too late. Right after the first inning at a baseball game is about right. The thing to remember about scalpers is that they dont give a fuck about hte game in most cases. They just want the $$. They know that after the game starts their chances of getting rid of those tickets is low. They do NOT want to eat the full cost. So generally you can get in for 1/2 of face value. Sometimes less if you wait long enough, but who wants to miss that much of a game?

Sometimes you'll get a guy who's an asshole about it. Especially if he's seen you waiting around for the game to start before you buy tickets. But generally its all about the $$. This is a great way to get tickets if, like me, you're on a budget. As a starving college kid I usually cant afford 50 bucks for a ticket twice a week. But I *can* afford 25, so I get to see alot of games this way.

I often get tickets from Yankee stadium entrepreneurs. It being Yankee stadium, they don't get cheaper, they just get available.

That being said, it pisses me off to no end that these guys are subject to prosecution when, just as a recent example, assholes are selling tickets to the Police concert before they are even available to the public for up to $2,000, section and row specified. Why are they not arrested? I have no idea.

It depends on the sporting even and team.

Football games here, you don't have a chance in hell buying a ticket for lower than face from a scalper. That's also partially due to the fact they're always sold out.

Basketball games are a different story, especially at SU where I'm used to going to games, since SU can pretty much never sell out basketball games, the scalpers will almost always sell tickets for lower than face.

Second row tickets are now asking $9,000 each. How is this not illegal when they bust people at the stadium for selling tickets for more than face value?

does the law varie state to state on this?... i live 5 minutes from a huge ampithreatre and there are tons of people along side the road selling tickets and police standing right beside them controlling traffic and what not.

ive never seen someone get arrested for selling tickets, unless they were selling fakes or something.

I work for music venues, much smaller than stadiums, but at our 1500-capacity venue the scalpers and the police are on a first-name basis.

I wish I lived in a place where I could go to the park and get a discounted ticket!  However, prices only go UP at Fenway, not down.  EVery game sells out, and scalpers around here make a boatload of money.  Hell, last season I made like $6-7,000 selling tickets :shrug:

From a business standpoint, you can justify it by the fact that all the close seats are owned and the waiting list can be years and years. Cutting in that line is a privelidge that should be paid for.

From a legal standpoint, I really don't see a difference.

Two things. I'm talking about tickets to a concert, not an ongoing season ticket thing so there is no "line" to jump. And I don't disagree with selling for what the market will bear. I just strongly disagree with the selective enforcement. In NY it is illegal to scalp tickets. Unless they changed the laws last week without calling me.

I'm not going to bother with counting, but here...

I thought you were talking about sports. We're in the sports forum. But, the same goes for sporting venues that concerts are at. Season seat holders get tickets to concerts as well. Outside a sporting venue, I don't know.

The difference, I'm sure, lies in what constitutes scalping.
