Overdrafting

I got slammed in the ass by my bank :lol:

I was buying little things like coffee and smokes with my debit card, not realizing I was real low on cash in my checking account.  I checked it two days ago, and I was at about -3.00.  Whatever, I'd deposit some today.

Today it's -$224 :sad:

haha I rolled up to the ATM with forty bucks to deposit, thinking "This'll get me out of the red."  Then I looked at the balance, and just sat there staring at it.  :lol:

whenever i overdraft i just bitch at the bank manager and threaten to close my account if they dont reverse the charges.. that has always worked for me.

I feel like such a loser going into the bank asking to see my last few transactions, and them showing me how the 35 dollar overdraft fees pile up in one day.

How does this work? I have bank of america, I assume they don't care if I close my student checking account :lol:

actually BofA has been the most forgiving bank ive used. Go talk to someone, come up with a story and stick to it, i had 200 dollars worth of fees drop because i talked to a bank mgr. I also only have a student checking account.

ive never had anything but a free student checking account.. im with chase.. just tell them it was a mistake.. that you are supposed to have direct deposit starting and it didnt kick in yet.. politely ask him if theres anything they can do.. and if they say no, then ask to close the account.

ive had to do this twice.

$224 in one day? Jesus, I'd like to see what evil policies they have worked out to slam you like that.

The most I've been screwed over for was around $80, and that was over 3 weeks. I deposited around a hundred bucks and the dumb fucks put it in my dad's bank account (we have the same name) so I was at negative 3 cents when I went to buy something. They never sent me a notice until 3 weeks had passed...needless to say I went in and bitched and got it back.

Anyway, I feel for ya. Might want to consider switching banks...

well, in my case, i had deposited 300 dollars in cash to pay bills with. I had set up my ebills to pay the bill and then after class i went to deposit the money. Unfortunately i didn't know BofA treats cash like checks since i deposited after two the transaction wouldn't process until the next day. Because of this 250 dollars worth of bills was charged to an account that had no money in it.

I went to the mgr and brought up the fact that i gave them cold hard cash so my account held the money required to pay the bills. So the mgr just took the fees off and credited my account with the remaining cash and let me know i should make my deposits earlier.

Bank of America charged me $5 for accepting a bad check. They would not refund it. So I withdrew all money (including a couple grand in savings) closed the account and went to a credit union.

i have never been with BofA but i have been very happy with Chase.. i previously had National City who sucked donkey dick.

actually, it's not that hard to imagine. Most banks charge 20-30$ per overdraft plus the amount of the charge. If he was buying a lot of small stuff, EG a lot of transactions, @ 20 a pop it's pretty easy to get up into the hundreds.

I agree with Banez. I once overdrafted both my accounts the same day (whoops) and bitched till no end because I had made a deposit and it didn't go through. They let me off the hook and reversed all the charges.

Whatever your story is, it will have to be something they can't authenticate. Say something like a friend (who also has b of a) tried making an online transfer (totalling more than the money you overdrafted) into your account before you went out but the site crashed and said something along the lines of "An error has occurred. Please check back later." You, being in a rush, had to leave the house and you asumed it went through. That only works if b of a lets you do online transfers though.

This happens to me all the fucking time.  Wachovia sucks ass when it comes to this, it's $35 per item.  Once I thought I had at least $10 in my account.  I bought small shit like a drink and a sandwich.  When they all went through the system that night they came through in a weird order and I ended up -$575 in the hole, each transaction being not more than $2.  They didn't let me waive the fee and I ended up paying it all back because I'm signed up for direct deposit.  I  HATE OVERDRAFTS. :crankey:

This is only the last 10 transactions, I'm sure there were overdrafts before this (and why the hell won't my card just get declined if I'm overdrafted?)
