HELP! little flies and bugs in my Salvia plant!!!!

this is terrible! there are a bunch of tiny flies hanging around the soil of my salvia plant. there are also very tiny white bugs crawling around the soil. it doesnt look like any are on the plant itself but some leaves are nibbled at. it is two cuttings in a single pot. i really want to get rid of these pests ASAP! should i repot them, spray them with garlic or tobacco water, or what????? please help folks, sally needds you. thankls

well i tried spraying them with garlic water and also repotted them but those little flies/gnats are still hanging around and eating my plant!!! any other ideas??

Did you try sprinkling ground pepper on the soil?

I have used this technique also to deal with pests with some OK results, however, I was a little concerned that the pepper and the garlic would increase the chance of bacteria or mould forming in the soil or even on the plants. Any thoughts?

mabey my problem is that the bugs are already in the type of soil i am using. i am going to get a new bag tomorrow, what kind of soil is best to use for sally?
