Second-grade student charged with bringing crack cocaine to class
February 9, 2007 - boston.com

NEW HAVEN, Conn. --A second-grade student was charged with narcotics possession after bringing crack cocaine to class this week, police said.

The 7-year-old boy, whose name was not released, told officers he found the packets of drugs on his way to Truman School on Wednesday, police said.

"We interviewed enough people that we're comfortable with that answer," New Haven police Sgt. Rick Rodriguez said.

A parent told the New Haven Register that the boy gave packets of the drugs to her second-grade son and other children, but police said Thursday they could not confirm that.

"He gave them out, but a lot of the kids didnt know what it was and threw it out," parent Nichola Tracey said.

School district spokeswoman Catherine Sullivan-DeCarlo referred all questions to police, who learned of the incident on Thursday from school officials.

The child's case was referred to juvenile court. The state Department of Children and Families also was notified.

wait...7 years old? Why was he charged with anything? I could understand charging the parents, although this kids story jives so I donr understand why ANYONE was charged.

Are they saying he kid even had a clue what it was? Damn, surprised they are charging him with distribution. I guess we need to start DARE classes in 1st grade now days, that way the cops can hold these awful 7 year olds accountable for thier crimes. (I hope the implied sarcasm was picked up)

You've got to be fucking kidding me. How could you ever suspect a god damn 7 year old of dealing crack to other 7 year olds. Anyone with a couple brain cells would walk into that situation, take the crack from the kid and send'm on his way. There's no way a 7 year old would give a shit about smoking crack. Nevermind even the knowlegde of how to actually smoke it or obtain a crack pipe or anything of the sort. How can someone so blatantly retarded be a Sgt? I wouldn't trust someone like that working the fucking ticket booth at the movie theater.

still, that isnt a law enforcement issue, that is a parenting issue. The kid, even if he thinks he knows what is going on, doesnt have the mental capacity to understand.
